Okinawa halts research on Korean victims of 1945 battle
NAHA — The Okinawa prefectural government has halted research into the names of Koreans killed in the 1945 Battle of Okinawa between Japanese and U.S. forces, the local government and a South Korean scholar said Thursday.

The local government had commissioned the research by Hong Jong Pil, a professor at South Korea's Myongji University, to look into the names to be inscribed on the Cornerstone of Peace monument in Itoman, Okinawa Prefecture.
