Saturday, October 9th, 2004: Can John Howard be defeated? (Australia) |
|
I would like to see another one of Bush's cronies defeated. Is it seriously possibly?

3. that depends on whether you live in a marginal seat or not |
|
Howard can win without getting a mjority of the popular vote as long as he gets a majority in the marginal seats. If most Austrailans don't vote for him I don't see how WE deserve what we get anymore than every DUer deserves Bush.

If Bush comes out on top in November, I won't think that the US deserves him, because the US deserves so much better than his bullshit. And we don't deserve Howard either. A friend of mine at work who lives in a marginal seat also doesn't deserve Howard if the Libs keep Eden-Monaro. For those of us in the safe Labor seat I live in, the most interesting thing this election is seeing whether the ACT will have its first ever Green Senator....

but not looking to likely at this late stage - a ALP/Greens coalition would be very unlikely, the Greens havn't got the lower house support yet and as there's no proportional voting there it'll be a while before we can get a decent number of greens there (we're working on it though) An ALP win with the balance of power in the Senate going to Greens is achievable but I'm afraid I think Howard has fooled enough people for enough of the time to win again.

7. Too many people focus only on their mortgate rate - |

"I'm okay, so why change?"
They don't care that Medicare will be virtually dismantled if they're not sick, they don't care that state schools will be run down even further unless they've got school age children, and worst, they don't care that Howard is a proven liar many times over.
I don't believe it's going to be the walkover some pundits are suggesting, I think it will be close. And if the Greens increase their Senate numbers and hold the balance of power, Labor and Greens together can stop Howard doing too much more damage.
And we may have to have another election sooner than Howard would really want.
