NEW DELHI, JAN 18: Chilean President Ricardo Lagos Escobar on Tuesday arrived on a five-day visit to India during which three accords will be signed for stepping up bilateral co-operation in trade, agricultural research and sanitary and phytosanitary issues related to plant and animal products.
Chilean ambassador Jorge Heine told FE Mr Lagos’s first halt was Mumbai and he would arrive in New Delhi on January 20. The leader will be visiting Bangalore and Agra too. In Mumbai and Bangalore he will meet business and industry leaders.
This is the first-ever visit by a Chilean head of state to India. Mr Escobar is accompanied by a high-level official delegation, including ministers of external relations, agriculture and education, besides a 50-member strong business team.He will meet President APJ Abdul Kalam and have wide-ranging discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the entire gamut of bilateral ties, besides exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
