Employee cleared in shooting death
When he shot and killed a would-be robber late last month, Matthew Novak was justified in protecting himself, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office ruled Wednesday.

Novak was working as a clerk at the downtown liquor store the night of the shooting. About 9 p.m., at least two men entered the store.

Detectives believe one of the men, Wilson, reportedly shot his gun into the ceiling once. At that point, Novak, 35, shot Wilson once in the chest. Wilson was taken to Parkview Hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital 30 minutes later.

Wednesday's ruling was the second time this year a store attendant was cleared in the shooting death of a would-be robber.
In March, 26-year-old John Wesley Washington III, a gas station attendant, was cleared of charges four months after he shot and killed a man intending to rob the store.

Patrick Eugene Byrd, 27, was shot to death after he showed a gun and demanded money at the Sunoco station, 5133 Coldwater Road, on Nov. 13. Washington pulled his own gun, for which he had a permit, and shot Byrd multiple times in the chest and abdomen.

I'd have to ask Mary Rosh, but if this keeps up i think Fort Wayne might have a drop in violent crime. Looks like they already have had a rise in justified shootings.

2. Dont' bother with Mary
She's a lying skank....

"if this keeps up i think Fort Wayne might have a drop in violent crime."

Thank gun control for that...

"The city's crime rate has reached its lowest mark in the past 20 years, York said. FBI statistics showed the number of major crimes in the city of Fort Wayne in 2002 was 12,257, dropping 8.54 percent from 13,402 in 2001. The number of crimes peaked in the late 1980s at about 17,000, record said."

4. Sorry to say,
but YOUR OWN article fails to demonstrate how gun control reduced the crime rate that has been falling since 1980, which by the way was long before the Brady (bullshit) Bill.

Experts say a number of factors have driven the crime rate down, including a more mature, less violent illegal drug trade, a drop in gang membership and even improved home locks and alarms that deter would-be burglars.

Some criminologists think tougher prison sentences and more prisons are key factors, because they take more criminals off the streets longer.

Crime has fallen nationwide since the Brady Law and the AWB.....

Don't see armed neurotics in that list....or much reason to have assault weapons back on the street....

6. Spin it again
so that you get more cotton candy out of those sugar fairy dreams.

The Brady bill did nothing, crime was dropping everywhere.

Nevertheless, you can take credit for it, hell tell everybody the Brady Bill eliminated Polio too, it's about as credible a story as your crime reduction theory.

8. Prove it,
plain and simple, like your responses, prove it!

Or you can do what you just did, and spin it off in another direction because you can't prove it.

But then again, proving your point would be out of character, and we like the predictable MrB.

9. Happy to...
"Since the law went into effect, gun deaths in the United States have dropped a remarkable 27 percent, from 39,595 in 1993 to 28,874 in 1999, the latest year for which statistics are available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
While there are many factors for this decrease, the most significant is the Brady Law, which has saved thousands of lives by requiring background checks that have prevented violent criminals from buying guns. In July, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a report showing that since the Brady Law went into effect in February 1994, background checks nationwide have kept 689,000 criminals and other prohibited purchasers from buying guns from licensed dealers. Two-thirds (458,000) of those rejected were convicted felons or fugitives from the law -- 179 criminals a day."

http://www.bradycampaign.org/about/press/release.asp?Record=365

"Serious crime across the country dropped by 10 percent for the first six months of 1999 compared to the first half of 1998, according to new figures released today by the FBI.
Murders plummeted by 13 percent nationwide, and burglaries dropped by 14 percent.
In a statement about the crime figures, Attorney General Janet Reno cited the Brady law, “which has kept more than 400,000 guns away from felons, fugitives and others who should not have them.” "
