1. Learning Theater 9: Gun Show Fun
Carla and Mr. Lucas have packed up their gear and rented a booth at a local gun show. Their booth is between the Aryan Nation Information Center and a local "gun collector" selling grandfathered assault weapons who can avoid conducting background checks....

I have never seen "the aryan nations" booth at a gun show.

Are you pretending that racist groups don't work the gun shows?

Right-wing groups, sure; like the John Birch society and the Young Republicans, who also show up at the county fair and neighborhood block parties.

7. Thats unbiased
Please, the milita watchdog is not what I would call unbiased. If they do "work the gunshows" they must keep a LOW profile because I have never seen them. Of course when in need of a story, journalists never lie, do they?

The Aryan Nations do "work the internet"- do you have a problem with the internet also?

I have never seen a booth set up at a gunshow, have you? Have you ever been to a gunshow? Reality, to me, is experience. Maybe you will cling to a biased web report, I see for myself.

You take some biased web site for reality? Go to a gunshow Double Pfft!

Does that make the monster any more believable? I would have to see that sucker with my own eyes in order to believe it. Same with Aryan nations booths at gun shows.

54. "Gun rights" is a big part of that fucked up world view
Just ask Buford Furrow...

"To aid in recruitment efforts, Aryan Nations hosts many racist activities during its summer festivals of hate at Hayden Lake, called the "World Congress of Aryan Nations." At these conferences, Butler’s organization has offered courses in urban terrorism and guerilla warfare. Numerous extremists have addressed Aryan Nations gatherings. John Trochmann, a featured speaker at the 1990 Congress, later became the leader of the Militia of Montana.

The post of successor to Butler remains vacant. It is believed, however, that Louis Beam, who has been touted in the past as Butler’s heir apparent, may step in to fill the void. Beam, who was David Duke’s Texas KKK Grand Dragon in the 1970s, has served as the Aryan Nations Ambassador-at-Large. He purchased property on the northern Idaho panhandle not far from the Aryan Nations headquarters at Hayden Lake. He attended a gun rights rally whose sponsoring group, reports the Spokane Spokesman-Review, included militia members and sympathizers, and was at a recent Aryan Nations World Congress."

and look at your posts...

"where, exactly, is a link to the Aryan Nations saying they support gun rights?"
Gee, do you think the head of those loonies was at the gun rights event by ACCIDENT?

"Pratt is director of Gun Owners of America, a Falls Church, Va.-based group that reportedly has between 150,000 and 200,000 members.
Pratt also spoke at an anti-government meeting in 1992 while looking into the Ruby Ridge, Idaho, incident in which federal agents killed the wife and son of white separatist Randy Weaver. A federal marshal also was killed during the siege.
The meeting was called by Pete Peters, leader of Christian Identity, which critics say supports violence to promote white supremacy. Other featured speakers included former Ku Klux Klan leader and Aryan Nation official Louis Bream and Aryan Nations Founder Richard Butler."

if a politician speaks at an event, they subscribe to everything said at that event?

I've been to events where people of many different positions spoke. I found myself thinking "This guy made sense, that guy didn't." But to say that they ALL have the same positions because they shared a dias is ridiculous, even for somebody like you.

I read an article not long ago about a traditional Celtic band that had that happen to them. They were hired to play some kind of European Festival, thought it was going to be your typical ScottishFest kind of thing, where they sell Haggis and meat pies, and have lots of men running around in skirts throwing telephone poles and tossing Dwarves, and all that fun stuff, but when they got there, they found out it was some kind of Nazi thing. I wish I could remember where I saw it....

So you agree that I DIDN'T make that statement? I did not say "no racists working any gun shows anywhere" did I? It seems you anti's like to "modify" what was said, thats pathetic.

The number of hits on Google mean nothing- personal experience tells me it isn't commonplace. 10 out of 10 gunshows held in Nashville-no "aryan nations information booths". When you went to the gunshow in your area, did you find any? Didn't think so.

You must be rowing the same boat Benchley is, one oar in the water going around in circles- getting nowhere. Demonize gun owners, people see right through the fog you try to create.

Either do I.

I do believe you have mis-quoted me. I did not say there have never been any aryan nations booths at gunshows, ever, anywhere. I would like you to show me where I said that, or retract it.

Your 250 links prove nothing, no more than my 115,000 links do.

Tell us all about your experiences at the gun show? Did you see any?

Now go row your boat, your arguement is based on a statement I didn't make. Also, it is really hard to debate when you keep changing the arguement- you can't prove your first statement so you move on to the loch ness monster thing. When you finally pin down what you want to argue about, p.m. me ok?

I agree. I don't recall ever seeing anything about Ted Nugent being a racist. Mr. Benchley can only throw accusations- no links or anything. It seems as if he is adding racist to the list of reasons to hate Ted Nugent because the fact he is a NRA board member doesn't have enough effect for him. What a shame, Benchley has to slander someones reputation. Either prove it or retract it Benchley.

66. Really, cross?
You've never seen ANYTHING about Ted Nugent being racist? Not one little word?

"MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) -- Derogatory racial remarks from rocker Ted Nugent have cost him a gig at the Muskegon Summer Celebration.
Festival officials canceled Nugent's concert following an interview last week with two Denver disc jockeys in which the DJs say he used slurs for Asians and blacks. The festival was scrambling to find a replacement."

http://www.staugustine.com/stories/051903/com_1545346.shtml

"After all, it's not so bad -- this live set taped last New Year's Eve in his Michigan stomping grounds is heavy on classic air-guitar favourites like Snakeskin Cowboys, Free For All, Hey Baby, Cat Scratch Fever, Stranglehold and Motorcity Madhouse.
Even better, it's light on the racist rhetoric old Ted usually subjects his audiences to."

http://www.canoe.ca/JamAlbumsN/nugent_ted_nugity-sun.html

"Lamenting a changing South Africa, in 1990 rock musician and NRA board member Ted Nugent told the Detroit Free Press magazine that "apartheid isn't that cut and dry. All men are not created equal. The preponderance of South Africa is a different breed of man. I mean that with no disrespect. I say that with great respect. I love them because I'm one of them. They are still people of the earth, but they are different. They still put bones in their noses, they still walk around naked, they wipe their butts with their hands.... These are different people. You give 'em toothpaste, they f---ing eat it.... I hope they don't become civilized. They're way ahead of the game." In the same interview, Nugent expounded on his racial views, "I use the word n----r a lot because I hang around with a lot of n----rs, and they use the word n----r, and I tend to use words that communicate...." 73. Yes Sir,
I never gave the NRA much thought, I have never been a member. You are correct, it seems that the leadership indeed has racial problems and phobias. I can't say for sure if the entire membership is that way, I hope not.
Has your research turned up any of this in the GOA? I have contributed money to the GOA in the past.
I know you and I have gotten into it about several things, I still disagree with you about gun control. You are 100% correct about the NRA leadership.

75. Put "Larry Pratt" and "racist" in any search engine
"Patrick Buchanan's presidential campaign co-chairman was forced to take an abrupt leave of absence Thursday to answer allegations he has ties to white supremacists and militia organizations.
Buchanan said the aide, Larry Pratt, denied the claims but agreed to leave the campaign "to refute these charges."
Pratt is director of Gun Owners of America, a Falls Church, Va.-based group that reportedly has between 150,000 and 200,000 members.
The charges are based on an investigation by the center that found Pratt has spoken before white supremacist groups and was an early advocate of the militia movement. "

http://www.tylwythteg.com/enemies/pratt.html

"Nearly three years ago, as Sen. John Ashcroft was considering a run for the presidency, he composed a hand-written thank-you note to a man many politicians would run from. Neatly inscribed on Ashcroft's Senate stationery, the letter went to Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, a firearms lobbying group considered extremist even by many conservatives.
At the time Ashcroft wrote to Pratt, the Virginia-based activist was already branded as a pariah even by those considered to the right of the GOP: Two years earlier, he had been forced to step aside as co-chairman of Pat Buchanan's presidential campaign after news reports of his association with leaders of the Ku Klux Klan, the Aryan Nations and militias.
Pratt, however, is not just involved with the GOA — he is also president of another group, English First, an organization accused of immigrant-bashing that is part of the conservative coalition rallying behind Ashcroft's nomination. "

http://www.time.com/time/nation/printout/0,8816,94912,00.html

"Guns were Pratt's focus, but they weren't the meeting's only topic. The audience listened to speakers who mixed calls for "Christian resistance" with warnings of concentration camps for "patriots." The men gathered in committees that issued reports with conclusions like, "Vigilante action is scriptural." Richard Butler, the aging chief of Aryan Nations, in Idaho's north woods, told the group, "I have to confess to you, I am a bigot."
"I am a 100 percent bigot," he added for emphasis."

3. The BBC Found The Guy....
How is it Ridge, AshKKKroft and the rest of those gumps cannot you ask? The answer is simple, the BBC is run by competent sane people.

"A three-hour drive from the capital, in the woods of Virginia we tracked down an Army of God activist: a balding, middle aged man called Reverend Donald Spitz.
The Army of God openly supports violence as a means of fighting abortion. Several of its members are in jail.
But the Rev Spitz is not. He lives in a wooden house, with his dogs caged in one of the bedrooms. He keeps guns in his home, and he believes that the FBI searches his premises occasionally when he is out.
He admits that his organisation has sent the letters but would not tell us if his organisation had access to real biological weapons. He did, however, believe that using anthrax against his enemies was legitimate.
"We believe that it's justified to use force to stop an abortionist. We wouldn't consider murder, we would consider justifiable homicide," he said.
In America, hate groups like the Army of God abound. Racist groups, Nazi groups, and others spout hatred and promote the use of violence openly on the internet...."

8. I've personally seen racists at gun shows.
However, they weren't "working" them, they were wandering around. The group I'm thinking of had three people, two guys and one girl. They were neo-nazi skins, not KKK. The guys wore the "uniform"....black jeans, Doc Martens, and black "flight jackets" over t-shirts. I noticed a fair number of "hard looks" being directed at them by both "regular" attendees and the dealers. I also saw them get nervous as hell when passed by armed African-Americans. One of the guys had a "commando" style mid-thigh holster on, but no gun in it, and I didn't see them buy anything.

I don't know about where you are, but here openly racist types are a very large oddity.

24. I've seen more overt racists at the beach than at gun shows
The most blatant one I ever saw was a big skinhead biker with a huge swastika and white power slogans tattooed all over his back. He was with a group of skinheads observing the annual sandcastle building contest in Imperial Beach, CA.

I've seen people with white power t-shirts walking around at gun shows too. Also shopping at malls.

BTW here is a list of items that are prohibited at the Crossroads of the West gun shows. Crossroads of the West hits every major venue in several states including California about 4 times every year:

PROHIBITED ITEMS:
1. Pornographic materials, drug paraphernalia, items
glorifying Nazism, items offensive to the general public.

2. Loaded firearms
3. Loose rounds of ammunition
4. Black Powder
5. Alcoholic beverages, unless sold by the concessionaire
6. Tobacco Products
7. No raffles

(underlining added for emphasis by slackmaster.) The people who run the show have broad authority to decide what is and is not offensive to the general public, and they do not allow racist exhibitors. That would never fly out in this part of the country.

I have been to 4 gunshows here in south texas (not too many, I know)
but I have never seen racist literature being passed out. Never seen stars and bars flags... ect.

The most extreme thing I ever have seen at a gunshow was a table selling alligator skulls and samurai swords. No guns... Ooooh, unliscensed dealers! Call the atf!

I know for a fact your attempts to portray all gun owners as racists is doing nothing but make you appear misinformed.

I know for a fact that Gore isn't in the whitehouse now because of the "anti-gun" wing of the democratic party. (no matter who exploited the fact).
Remember there are 80+ million gun owners in the US- Thats a voting block that should be considered.

"Here's the core of an article supposedly telling us what Democrats think.....
"says James Jay Baker, legislative director of the National Rifle Association."
"says Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga., who was just elected to a second 3-year term on the NRA board."
"In a letter written to Baker in May, Ashcroft said "
"Republican pollster Bill McInturff asks." "

"And you'll notice that this new link
leads to a new pile of horseshit telling us Democrats don't support gun control anymore. How do we know? Just look at these Democratic sources:
"Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, says..."
"Republican pollster David Winston asked..."
"Lawrence Keane, general counsel of the National Shooting Foundation, says ...." "
