SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT - GOVERNOR DEAN'S COMMENT ON GUN VIOLENCE WAS INACCURATE

The candidate said states like Tennessee with low homicide rates don't need strong gun laws.

In last night's Democratic Presidential primary debate in Baltimore, sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean was inaccurate in his efforts to illustrate his longstanding argument that "we need to resist attempts to tell states how to deal with guns beyond existing federal law."

Governor Dean cited Tennessee as a state with a low homicide rate. He was incorrect. Tennessee has both overall high homicide rates and high gun homicide rates. Tennessee has the eighth highest homicide rate and the sixth highest gun homicide rate in the nation, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). 6.16 per 100,000 individuals living in Tennessee are murdered by firearms, whereas the national rate of firearm homicides is 3.92. In 2000, there were a total of 343 gun homicides in Tennessee.

As the nation's largest national, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March is dedicated to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in their communities.

1. It's frightening how Dean falls back on guns so often.
I thought this was the peace candidate?

2. Dean only supports certain gun measures...
that the public really supports. Vermont has NO concealed carry. And this guy was governor for years.

4. Guns are BIG issues for TN and WV
Al Gore learned that one the hard way. Hell, the Bubbas in those states take off every other day during the fall to go deer huntin'. And the first day of deer season...most schools are canceled. I kid you not.

7. What do you mean...
...that Vermont has no concealed carry? Vermont has unrestricted CCW, no license necessary.

11. peace candidate?
Is that the one that makes it next to impossibe for potential victims to arm themselves against those that are big enough to make the victim rest in "peace" after raping and murdering them?

What is your solution for protecting the lone woman against those rapists that can overpower their victims?

Don't bother saying dial 911 either.
