How does one go about obtaining a FFL(Federal Firearms License)? |
|
What is required? What are the benefits of possessing one? I'm kind of clueless on this, so I'm hoping some people can help me out.

to apply to ATF for the license. www.atf.gov's webpage on licensing ( http://www.atf.gov/firearms/nlc/index.htm) should get you started.

the applicant:
Is 21 years or more of age; Is not prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition; Has not willfully violated the GCA or its regulations; Has not willfully failed to disclose material information or willfully made false statements concerning material facts in connection with his application; Has premises for conducting business or collecting; and, The applicant certifies that--
(1) the business to be conducted under the license is not prohibited by State or local law in the place where the licensed premise is located;
(2) within 30 days after the application is approved the business will comply with the requirements of State and local law applicable to the conduct of the business;
(3) the business will not be conducted under the license until the requirements of State and local law applicable to the business have been met; and,
(4) the applicant has sent or delivered a form to the chief law enforcement officer where the premises are located notifying the officer that the applicant intends to apply for a license.
(5) secure gun storage or safety devices will be available at any place in which firearms are sold under the license to persons who are not licensees ("secure gun storage or safety" defined in 18 U.S.C. 921 (a) (34) ) .
And there are a lot of rules and regulations you must follow as a dealer. If you just plan to buy one gun and no parts or supplies - you don't need an FFL. And it will take a little time. The license can, and often does, get processed in as little as two months. But on the high side it could take as many as six months.
But you do save the $20-$50 transfer fee.

4. If you live in a class 3 friendly state |

If you are serious, make sure you live in a class 3 state. If not- move! Full auto fun! You would be allowed to purchase just about any autoloader you wish as a "dealer sample" and shoot til you can't afford any more ammo! I have often entertained the idea of a gun store just to enjoy the fun of having access to the latest and greatest toys.

5. Every forgot one thing |

You must first make a trip to your local drug store to pick up some KY Jelly. This is to ease the initial entry process into your asshole that the ATF is going to make when they investigate you for previous criminal history and EVERYTHING else they can think of. It will also come in handy any time they come to audit you.:evilgrin:
