Airgun ban takes a step forward
Airgun ban takes a step forward

A move which could see Aberdeen become the first city in Scotland to ban airguns has taken a step forward.

Councillor for Seaton, Norman Collie, hopes to end what he calls the yob culture associated with the weapons.

Aberdeen gun shop owner Neil Anderson previously said he agreed that using airguns illegally should result in harsh punishment, but that he did not feel they should be banned.

James Scott, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation's (BASC) press and policy officer for Scotland, told the BBC Scotland news website: "We appreciate there are concerns in some areas.

"Our premise is we have got existing legislation all of which should prevent the misuse of airguns if the legislation is properly enforced and the public suitably educated."

4. al dente
i am thinking al dente pasta is next. after all, unless pasta is cooked to complete limposity (my word) it could PUT AN EYE OUT!!!!

but one thing is certain. they will never ban HAGGIS in scotland.

:)

seriously, though i concede that fake guns that are designed to look just like real guns, but are used routinely as toys can result in "lawful but awful" incidents where people with airsoft guns have been shot when people mistook their guns for real guns. otoh, there are some criminals who USE airsoft guns in crimes (robbery etc.) but i'm referring to innocents who use them irresponsibly, not criminals who use them intentionally

9. This is how rights vanish
incrementally. Step by step. inch by inch.

When handguns are outlawed, we'll go after rifles.

When knives are outlawed, we'll go after bb guns.

When scissors are outlawed, we'll go after knitting needles.

We care, and we're here to help.

11. I am torn on this........

On the one hand Air soft guns are awesome for indoor practice drill for drawing your sidearm from the holster and fast sight acquisition. Plus they are fun! :headbang:

But on the other hand I almost shot a teenager who pointed his "MP5" at me when I was called in to investigate some "possible armed subjects" near a highway motel. When we approached the area where the subjects were last seen a boy/ young man popped out from behind a dumpster (seeing us in out tac vests and our pistols drawn) he though we were playing "Air Soft" like the other 5 guys out there. He began to move like he was going to take aim until we let him know who we were and what would happen should he continue. He dropped the toy and we knew, immediately, that it was a toy by the sound it made when it hit the ground.

It was later determined that the kids had painted the orange tips of their toys black so they would "look more realistic". Well it worked, and it had all of the ingredients for a disaster. Fortunately our training and the kids belayed good judgment worked together for the best outcome.

We then made all of the kids scrape off the black paint on their guns. They were more than happy to comply.

12. I'm torn as well.
There have been several instances of police drawing down on kids with Airsofts. There are also other instances of police getting shot by real guns painted with orange tips.

When I have kids, they will not be allowed to have Airsofts. They might get Super Soakers. They will be trained on REAL guns of course.
