'Twas the night before heller
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 01:55 AM by beevul
'Twas the night before Heller and all through DU,

Everyone was sleeping save only a few;

The alarms were set for 10 eastern with care,

In hopes that a decision would soon be there;

The guns were all nestled with care in their lockers,

Even those Berettas with their odd de-cockers,

Out in California with a smile on its face,

A cat named Samantha guarded Slackmasters safe;

Elsewhere the gunnies were out drinking beers,

And discussing the case to attentative ears,

"We've waited decades for this" they say with disdain,

"They better get this right, or we'll be stuck with mccain",

And elsewhere the bradys were crying in their sleep,

"Dog forbid they say arms are to bear and to keep",

"Activist judges" their minions may claim,

With venom and vile and statements of blame,

Spokespeople for the "civilised world" might proclaim

"Though self appointed, I'll make this plain",

"Old dead white guys is what its about",

"You can join us, or fight us or trod off and pout"

And down in the gungeon all was well,

Wickerman had kept the peace with narry a yell,

Much time had passed since the assault weapons ban,

And truth had been spread about it as was the plan,

There once was one who had argued that case,

With pantloads of pantloads festooning the place,

But Times have changed where guns are concerned,

And Fenty and Dc will probably get burned,

And good we will feel if this goes our way,

Me, I'll target shoot and celebrate all day,

And smile because I knew we were right all along,

That contrary to gungrabbers we DO belong,

And the days of gun banning could pass quickly by,

And Democrats could again own the large piece of pie,

Pass universal healthcare and bring the troops home,

And end the war and our emperors of rome,

Stop spying and fisa and all kinds of stuff,

And be in a position to finally say enough,

Some of you reading may think this is evil,

It really isn't though its just me - Beevul,

And Now I exclaim as I log off this site,

Happy Heller to all and to all a good night.

Happy Heller everyone - win or lose.

3. Ok, I didn't really go to bed...
Almost there though...

Anyhoo, Heller is really Heller vs DC - its about the washington DC handgun ban, and the meaning of the second amendment, and the ruling is expected to be released tomorrow morning at 10am eastern time.

No matter the ruling, its likely to be historic.

7. There is one issue
You support a guy who wants to bring in more Stevens' and Breyers'. Who do you think you are fooling folks? Obama is a bona-fide gun grabber, throughout his entire career. Support progressive ideas, yes, but support a champion of gun-grabbing, Obama, and reciting poems about how wonderful it is that we finally have a conservative leaning court to recognize our rights once and for all, is just weird.

Scalia is demonized on this site, but I have read several posts by authors 'praying' that Scalia write the majority opinion, due to his deep belief in individual rights. What gives????????

8. Welcome to the Gungeon, get use to "weird" :)
Settled eons ago, it's called "taking the bad with the good". Good court, bad court, kangaroo court - doesn't matter as far as this case is concerned.

14. And even the best candidate
is wrong on some issues. (but still gets my vote)

Yes, Obama and the whole Chicago machine want to grab everyone's guns. Except, of course, the politically connected.

I just hope the congress can keep any gun-grabbing legislation from reaching Prez Obama's desk, because he will sign it in a heartbeat. And if that fails, I hope the SCOTUS shoots it down.

:hi:

15. Even RFK was largely "untouched" by the problems of the poor...
even beyond his brother's term. Once he got out in the country (in more ways than one) he learned -- and felt -- differently. Obama may be in the same position with regards the Second. There's a whole country beyond the confines of Chi-town.

16. Yes, it would seem so.
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 08:49 AM by gorfle
Obama is a bona-fide gun grabber, throughout his entire career.

Yes, it would seem so.

But you have to ask yourself these questions:

Has the "War on Terror" done anything to diminish the resolve of those who would attack us, or strengthen it?

Have we seen numerous incursions on our civil liberties in the name of "catching terrorsits"?

Is the Iraq war a waste of money and lives?

Are global corporations pulling Republican strings? Do global corporations care what happens to the United States?

Are you tired of hearing about no Social Security for you, but we have trillions to spend on Iraqis?

Are you tired of hearing about no Health Care for you, but we have trillions to spend on Iraqis?

Are you tired of hearing about bailouts for mortgage companies while giving homeowners the boot, but we have trillions to spend on Iraqis?

Yes, the Republicans have long been a friend of firearm owners. But can you honestly turn a blind eye to all the serious problems above just for that friendship?

Is it possible that the Republicans have been using that friendship to stay in power so they could abuse us in all the ways described above and more?

To me, the answers are clear. The Republicans have to go. We can only hope that after 1994 the Democrats learned the hard way about anti-RKBA stances. We can also only hope that in about 15 minutes the Supreme Court will solidify the Constitutional basis for owning firearms, making attacks on that right that much harder.

We can also hope that the millions of Americans who are pro-gun who have abandoned the Republican Party in favor of the Democratic Party will be able to change the tone of the Democratic Party concerning firearms.

That's how I see it.

11. Thanks, I needed the chuckle

Yet somehow I can't get past the anxiety. This looms as the most important SCOTUS decision of my 50 years. I sincerely hope it goes our way.

13. Relax, it'll go our way
Depending, of course, on which "we" we are, and which way represents the particular us's "our" way.

Or, it could be decided as a very narrow issue, applicable only to "metropolitan areas which are generally square in shape and not part of any state".

unarmed, I would hope!!

Nice, well done poem! Balanced, even.

***Disclaimer*** Beevul is mistaken. I did yell a few times - but I did NOT pay him off to cast me in a favorable light.

18. What? No cash?
Seriously though...It is worth setting aside for a moment what anyone in particular might wish for an outcome, to note the value of this event in historic terms, in potential at the very least.

So rarely does a thing such as this come along.
