Could Supreme Court Gun Ruling Affect Rochester’s Laws?
Could Supreme Court Gun Ruling Affect Rochester’s Laws?

Last Update: 10:17 am

The city of Rochester's gun law restricts possession, not ownership, of some types of guns including assault weapons, semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, some pistols with extra ammunition, and replica guns.

City residents can own these guns, but not possess them in the city unless the firearms are disabled or in pieces.

Rochester City Councilman Adam McFadden, chair of the city's Public Safety Committee, said it isn't legal gun owners committing street crime, it's criminals. Therefore, whether Rochester's gun ban was stricter, or less restrictive, illegal guns would still be behind most shootings and murders.

A city spokesperson said he believes that Rochester's restrictions on guns are in compliance with today's Supreme Court ruling. But some gun advocates say, the ruling leaves a lot to be determined.

Looks like another draconian law contrary to the second amendment ruling that needs to be eliminated, to me.

1. Maybe I'm just stupid, but how the hell can you OWN something
but not possess it? What am I not understanding here?

2. I see two ways to do that
1. Disassemble it before entering city limits, or

2. Store it outside of city limits.

3. Yea, and let somebody else keep it for you! All of those options are just
silly, stupid, nonsense, and all of that! It sounds similar to the laws in England where you are permitted to own guns, but they must be kept in a government owned and regulated facility. They are allowed to be used for shooting practice, competition, and hunting but never kept at home. Sorry folks,m but this ownership/possession thing is just damn dumb!

4. Sounds like a yes
The ruling yesterday seemed to say that people have the right to keep a firearm in their immediate vicinity at Condition Zero if so desired. Keep it out of city limits or keeping it disassembled would seem to run contrary to that ruling.
