"get the baby"!!!
The Avondale family had started to unload groceries at their home near Main Street and Litchfield Road when three men approached the car with guns and demanded money.

When the victim, 52, said he didn't have any cash, one robber said, "get the baby", according to Avondale Police Sergeant Memo Espinoza.

The victim pulled out a handgun and the three robbers started shooting at the man and the house. The father shot back.

The robbers ran away, and one was crawling on the ground as if he had been shot, according to Espinoza.

The victim and baby were not hurt in the shootout.

WOW, thank goodness that father, was ABLE to defend his family....

1. I thought robbers were just after "material" goods?
Well, that idiotic bullshit theory just went out the window, AGAIN! I would way rather shoot the hell out of some dudes than risk losing my baby. Too bad the attackers did not sustain some solid COM hits.

3. Could you please explain what your
last sentence means? I certainly hope it doesn't mean what I think it means.

10. It probably means he needs a new keyboard.
I would assume either stands or tanks. Either way a couple of letters are missing.

4. Um, that sounds like a complete lie to me.
"Get the baby"? Normal theives don't steal babies. And that one of the robbers was crawling, and yet managed to "run away"? Sounds to me like this person is making up a story.

6. it will certainly be interesting to follow

One of my own favourite gungeon tales involved the heroic gun-wielder who fired on the dastardly villain who had grabbed his wife and was dragging her down the staircase ... or something like that.

The villain was found bleeding somewhere nearby, and an investigation ensued. I mean, the hero and his wife hadn't actually called the cops or anything. Funny thing was, the guy who got shot had got into the house by getting the keys from another guy, from whom he had demanded the keys to the house of the hero, whom he called by name. And there were a glass tube and some other interesting objects involved somewhere along the line.

But hell. Even drug dealers are entitled to defend themselves when their dissatisfied customers come a-callin', eh??

8. why does that sound like a lie to you?
Because it is a particularly awful thing to do? I don't know why you are so quick to discount this as a lie, "normal" thieves don't rob people in groups either. Plus, as more members of MS-13 and similiar gangs from South America move north, more of the tactics of those gangs will come north as well. One of their signature moves is kidnapping. She doesn't have any money right now, she will when we call tomorrow telling her how much ransom they want.

12. Actually, normal thieves DO rob in groups, all the time.
Tell me, what is a petty robber going to do with a baby? Are you seriously suggesting that these supposedly fearsome gangs are just going to go around randomly kidnapping babies from people who have no money in the first place? Do you really think that a thief's first choice of target would be stealing a baby, rather than, say, stealing the CAR that they were unloading? Do you think the car is worth less than whatever a poor family could scrounge in 24 hours?

No thief with an IQ above dirt is going to make that kind of choice, and any cop will tell you that this story does not hold water in the least. Much more likely, this guy got into an argument with somebody over something he didn't want to tell the police about, and he made up this story to try and explain what went down in a justifiable manner.

9. I don't know about you
but if I have a baby to look after, a crime was just committed and the perp is crawling away, I'm going to focus on getting the child to a safe place (especially if there were 2 more attackers).

I'm not going to shoot the crawling guy in the back, or physically restrain him till police show up.

ASSUMING all the facts laid out in the article are correct, sounds like the victim did the right thing all the way around. We will see, as more details become available.

11. Yes, I'm not prone to question the victim of an armed gang, pro forma (nt)

13. And conveniently NOBODY else was there, no police came, no neighbors investigated?
Nobody expressed the slightest interest in the supposed gunshot guy crawling away bleeding? The cops, when called, couldn't locate the whereabouts of a man who was alleged to be wounded so bad that he had to crawl away bleeding? Nobody was there who could be asked to chase down the wounded bad guy? And the guy who was having to crawl away just disappeared into thin air?

I usually withhold judgement, but this story stinks to high heaven. Way too many inconsistencies.

14. One persons 'crawling'
might be another person's 'scrambling'. Text is so imprecise on these things.

I'll give the apparent victim the benefit of the doubt for now. We'll see if any more details or witness accounts are forthcoming.

7. This gang of robbers is well known
as "The Dingo's"

In this particular instance, the Dingo did not take her baby

A bedtime story from Australia.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23884091-661,00.html

ARMED bank robbers told a terrified Sydney woman to get a baby out of her car before stealing it to make their get away this morning.

Three balaclava-clad men held up the ANZ Bank at Miranda about 8.30am today.

... A woman, from Hurstville, was parking her white Toyota Camry when the men approached her.
There ordered the woman to get out of the car, demanded the keys and told her "get the baby out''.

Crying and distresed the woman ran into the mall, holding the child she was babysitting.

Might what was said in the story in the OP have meant the same thing?

"Get the baby out of the car so we can take the car" would make a whole lot more sense than "give us your baby", in the circumstances.
