So my wife and I were gun shopping today...
Just looking for a starter gun for her. I was shooting trap Saturday for the first time in 15 years, and it sparked her interest in in maybe getting a first gun. Mind you we both grew up in gun families, and while I grew up shooting, I don't do much of it now...

So we were at a big box outdoors store, checking out some single shot 20 gauges, I was explaining some basic stuff, safety, feel, caliber, etc., and we got some funny looks from the workers there. No one approached us to ask us for help, and we went on our merry way.

Later we realized that she was wearing her Obama Mama tshirt! That explained the sideways looks we were getting.

We decided that from now on, every time we walk into a gun shop one of us would wear a liberal shirt or button.

That'll confuse them. (Or get them calling the authorities!)

1. I do the same thing
I wear my "Worst President Ever" T-shirt when I buy ammo. They look at it and do a double take.

2. That's great! Let's definitely take this issue away from them
they think they are the only people that like weapons. I don't own one but I don't have a problem with people owning them legally.

Thanks for sharing!

5. What was interesting in Obama's speech was that he
supports the 2nd amendment and he made a point that folks that like to hunt in the midwest are one thing but people in the inner cities with AK47's were quite another. He acknowledged that everyone won't agree 100% but there can be a meeting ground to discuss the issue.

6. Unfortunately, the discussion would most likely include..
Bans...THAT APPLY TO BOTH RURAL AND URBAN DWELLERS ALIKE...

And could some one PLEASE EXPLAIN to Obama, that AK-47's have been TIGHTLY regulated since the 1930's.

Imagine that...

8. the 47 in Ak-47
Someone should inform you that the 47 in Ak-47 stands for the year the weapon was developed. You might want to try a better example.

10. But the legislation controlling them
went into effect in 1936. It doesn't matter when it was invented, it was classified and given special income-filtering tax status by the National Firearms Act that took effect eleven years prior to its invention.

Semi-auto look alikes are obviously not covered, because they are not full auto, which is the defining characteristic of many NFA firearms.

12. So, ROFLMAO!!!!
The laws regulating AK 47's, WAS put in place in the 1930's, as you say, BEFORE the AK47 was even invented, LOL that does not mean they do not apply to the AK47...lol

Those laws, tightly regulated, and restricted machineguns....IE guns that fire more than one time, per trigger pull...

An AK47 is capable of firing fully automatically, they CAN fire more than one time, per trigger pull.

With your logic, laws do not apply to anything invented after the law is written.

25. The law regulating them (and all other automatic weapons) was passed in 1934...
namely, the Title 2/Class III provisions of the National Firearms Act.

7. yea
I tire of these guys pretending that the right to keep and bear arms has anything to do with hunting. It is about self defense among other things, and who needs the ability to defend themselves more than law abiding citizens in the inner cities? He and Biden are really a pair to draw to on this issue. He would have done himself and the party a huge favor by choosing a running mate who didn't have a long history of being more pro gun control than himself, which is a feat in itself. I hate to be negative on this pair, but unless he makes some very strong statements regarding not enacting or advocating any new Federal gun legislation (and I don't see that happening) this issue certainly may cost us yet another election.

3. The Fly Shop
that does drift boat shuttles where I live is the same way. They have a bunch of hate crap all over their store. My approach is different, I stopped using them. No telling what those toothless bastards would do to my truck shuttling it for me. I would like to get a nice over and under someday but not from that store.

9. Funny thing, many of the people I know who legally carry guns
are Democrats, actually, most of them - I don't know many people who are not Dems.

I will wear my Obama button next trip to a gun shop, just to get the reaction.

Not to talk about private collections, or family target practice..

But if you must.. Here is our arsenal's latest addition.

The Vz-52 Arguable, the most powerful, regularly issued military pistol in the world. We just had to take it off "the streets"....so we brought it home...

It's sexist. It's always sexist. The phrase "my wife and I" reduces her to a mere fashion accessory. How terrible.

18. apparently you don't

Blimey, it was really very simple.

So many posts about "my wife" this and "my wife" that.

How come no posts ever about "my husband" this or "my husband" that?

How come no posts ever by women?

Just that simple.

Don't you people get tired of your own company occasionally??

20. Mine has her own forums
and could care less about DU. Plus she is a rabid Hillary supporter and wouldn't last long here. And besides, if she wants a gun, she will just approve of me buying it, than I will never see it again. The pistol I shoot best is off with her somewhere, I don't know if I'll ever be allowed to touch it again. Maybe if I get her something pink I'll be able to get it without having my hand reduced to a stump.

Really throws folks, esp. the conservative ones, through a loop when I'm at the range or out hunting.

27. Restricting our hobby
What do you shoot when you go to the range? If all you own is a trap and a pump shotgun and a bolt action rifle, then I can see why you are not alarmed by Obama's gun policies. Those of us who choose semiauto firearms for hunting and competitive shooting have a problem with Obama's stance.

28. If you read any of my stuff, you will know I have a problem with Obama, too...
And I own a variety of weapons, for sporting activities and self-defense. The question is how to get the Democrats to quit doing the Brady's bidding. You should get that bumper sticker; it really is amusing, the reaction.

31. Three things why I'm not worried about Obama...
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 11:24 PM by iiibbb
1) I think he's going to have other issues to tackle in the first 4 years.

2) Unlike Bush, I think Obama has a sense of what his mandate is really going to be. I'm pretty certain that he knows that he'll be there for the war, the economy, and health care... Gun control just isn't in the mix.

3) I think the Dems aren't going to do anything until the impact of the Heller case is fully realized.

I just don't think gun control is going to be a major issue for Dems in the first 4 years. A lot of the seats they've been picking up are pro-gun Dems as well. I just don't think the will is there.

I just don't know how we can afford McCain/Palin... they are just so abhorrent.
