Drug Dealers and a (Former?) Gang Member on Chicago's Finest Hiring List
According to the Constitution, "the people" have the right to keep and bear arms. In Daly's Chicago, only police officers and criminals are supposed to be carrying. I guess it will cut down on the total "guns on the street" if they're the same people:

Some were rejected from suburban police departments.

Others sold cocaine and smoked pot.

A few were thieves. Others are related to crooks. One was even a gang member.

They're among dozens of people restored to the Chicago Police Department's hiring list after they were found unfit to become cops.

Daly vows to fight to protect Chicago citizens from constitutional democracy. Maybe he could find a little time to protect them from his own administration. A good start might be some firings, followed by a resignation.

1. Think about it.
How's a guy supposed to turn over a new leaf if he can't find a job? Remember, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

As many people as there are out of work these days I would think they'd be able to have the pick of the litter. What's up with their hiring process?

3. There are a lot of city jobs that don't require a firearm

I'd have no problem with them working in Streets and Sanitation.

4. It was a Joke...
Back when I was going through the Police Academy, I had a classmate who was the most motivated and squared away dude you ever met. He just ate the stuff up.

Well, one night we were meeting in class for a session on what to do if you ever accidentally arrest a drug agent. One of our area's top undercover officers walked into the room and looked around. He saw Mr. SquaredAway sitting in the front row smiling ear to ear. "What in the Hell are you doing here?", the drug agent yelled. "I've been looking for you for a couple of years now."

I have no idea how he got into the academy to begin with but it was a real Kodak moment as he got tossed out. Later, he fingered me as a cop when I was going into a bar to try to spot a subject we had lost on a surveillance. I nearly took a beating before making it out a door. Had he actually graduated and been hired by the department, it would have been a raging nightmare.

Then we had another guy in the class accidentally tell everyone how to make meth. Whoops, turns out he had been cooking the stuff for years as a hobby and part-time job. You know, short order drug dealer.

It turned out that a local cocaine distributor was paying guys to go to the academy. This way he could keep track of who was who and occasionally get one on the department. It was a real problem till it got nipped in the bud, to quote that famous icon of the Law Enforcement Community.

6. Saying someone is a "former" gang member is
a little shakey.
Many of these folks consider themselves members for life.
Were there not enough honest people applying for the police force?
This is part of the bad of gun control - who are you trusting your life to? Cops who are "former" drug dealers and gang members?
Politicians? People who want to decide from afar how you should live and what you should believe?
