2. No, but gun dealers will profi big off the lie they began anyhow. n/t
what a scam. and the righties are too used to someone else thinking for 'em they can't even figure out that gun and ammo prices are jacked up by about 30%-40% now because of this bogus silliness. Not to mention all the trash that's on the market right now. If you're going to buy a gun anytime soon and you're a novice, make sure you bring a friend along who has been around firearms for years and has some level of expertise.

3. Interesting Question on Incoming Administration's Questionnaire for Those Seeking High Posts:
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 09:05 AM by one-eyed fat man
From the form the transition is using to vet applicants to the Obama administration.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/13/us/politics/13apply.html?_r=2&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

Question 59:

Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.

Certainly an inter sting thing to ask for someone who professes to support the Second Amendment and rights of ORDINARY citizens to own guns for lawful purposes.

4. Could be a few different things...
He could be vetting his staff very closely. How would it look if a high-level staffer or a cabinet member was suddenly shown to own an "illegal" firearm? Even though the gun laws in some parts of the country are intentionally designed to make ordinary citizens into criminals, it would not sit well with a press that needs a new story every 24 hours or so.

Maybe he's going to hatch some evil plan to go door-to-door and take every gun we own? We'll all know that one is coming when he dons a black velvet robe and declares himself the Ruler of the Known Human Universe. That would cement his legacy and make him at best a one-term President. It would also guarantee decades of Republican control of the government.

It could be that he's just taking an inventory of the backgrounds of his staffers so he can know their strengths and real-world experiences. He'd look like a fool if he hired someone and didn't know that they were a regular contender at Camp Perry every year. Or that they had accidentally shot their ex-wife's heirloom china cabinet. How about someone not disclosing that they had accidentally shot one of their buddies in the face while bird hunting? Imagine if one of them legally owns an NFA item like a Ma Deuce or an M16. What you don't know can really hurt you in the 24/7 game of "Gotcha" that is played in Washington.

6. The correct answer on the registration question would be "Not applicable" in most cases
I sincerely hope the PE and his staff understand that.

11. But it is possible that they don't...
Many people in the large anti-gun areas of this country believe that obviously all legal guns are registered. To them it's just commonsense.

Here is a quick and dirty summary of Florida firearms law:

Rifles and Shotguns

* Permit to purchase rifles and shotguns? No
* Registration of rifles and shotguns? No
* Licensing of owners of rifles and shotguns? No
* Permit to carry rifles and shotguns? No

Handguns

* Permit to purchase handgun? No
* Registration of handguns? No
* Licensing of owners of handguns? No
* Permit to carry handguns? Yes

http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/p/gunlaws_fl.htm

If I wanted to register my firearms with the police, I couldn't. No registration system exists.

Not all states require the registration of firearms. To check if your state does consult:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_(by_state)#Florida

Or for an interactive map:

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1998/schools/gun.control/

Note: this data may not be up to date as firearms laws frequently change.

However if the fact that you own a firearm and it was never registered would disqualify you from serving in Obama's administration, than many legal gun owners who might have valuable talent and ability would be rejected. Only candidates from states that require firearm registration would qualify.

If this requirement is actually enforced than Bill Richardson, the Democratic Governor of New Mexico would be rejected as his state doesn't require registration of firearms.

It seems to me that the most gun-friendly candidate from either party at this point is a Democrat, Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico. He has consistently received endorsements from the NRA and he is the only candidate for president in 2008 who has publicly stated that he holds a concealed carry permit. Richardson is one Democrat who seems to “get it” on gun rights:

Yes, it is possible that the people employed by the President-elect of the USofA don't know their asses from holes in the ground.

I guess.

13. huh

Under “Domestic Help,” the questionnaire asks the immigration status of applicants’ housekeepers, nannies, chauffeurs and yard-workers, and whether applicants have paid the required taxes for household employees.

Last I looked, "ordinary citizens" had a right to employ domestic staff, too.

How dare they ask whether applicants are in compliance with the legal requirements.

17. yaaassss

Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed?

So if registration is not required, then it is not actually even possible.

So then no registration information would be provided by anyone filling out the questionnaire.

How difficult is this?

Not difficult at all, actually.

Kinda like:

Q. Do you have any childre? If so, provide complete names, ages and school attendance information.
A. Triggerhappy Runningback Smith-Tremblay, 6 months.

Not of school age, no school attendance information. Duh.

Not in a state where firearms registration is required/possible, no registration information. Duh.

22. Of course there are some other factors you didn't consider:
The Democratic Party is on record as favoring permanent reinstatement of a much-expanded assault weapons ban, and the two highest standard bearers of the Party also favor this position, and have a deep track record of militant gun control.

One can talk of "lies" till the cows come home, but these prosaic facts are enough to boost the sale of firearms.

Don't you think it ironic that MSM, long the strongest component of gun-control interest groups, got in on the "scam?"

7. why yes they did! How did you know?
Why they pulled right up to my front door in my texas suburban neighborhood right as i was having a dinner party for my elitist friends. He knocked on the door and said "Ah yes we are presently turning this nation into a reeking pot of communism and we would like you to relinquish all of your guns. Praise Commrade Lennin."

:sarcasm:

I may sell a few while the market is hot. Once people realize that there are not going to be significant changes, their value will drop.

20. I took a quick peek at Gunbroker to see what C&R rifles are selling for
Swedish Mausers similar to ones I bought for under $200 are typically selling for $400 and up.

I could probably finance a new engine lathe by selling half a dozen rifles and a handgun or two.
