John Kerry and assault weapons
You gotta love John Kerry.

Saying stuff like I don't hunt deer with a PRE-BAN AK-47.

Wow John. Neither do I. I love my post ban WASR-10. Perfect for in the brush deer busting.

Maybe if you really cared about banning assault weapons you'd endorse S 1431 BUT NO! Had to cave to Dianne Feinstein and co-sponsor S 1034.

"I believe in the Second Amendment in this country," Mr. Kerry continued. "But I don't believe that assault weapons ought to be sold in the streets of America. Never believed it, don't believe it now." (source: NY Times)

Maybe we oughtta re-phrase that John!

"I believe in the SA in this country, "Mr Kerry continued, "But I don't believe that PRE-BAN TYPE assault weapons ought to be sold in the streets of America. Never believed it, don't believe it now. Get yourself a post-ban and quit whining about not being able to have a flash hider"

Taking Bush's position on the issue (he likes S 1034) doesn't help you, John. Heck even ol Howard Dean has no problemos with S 1O34. I bet John Edwards, Dick Gephardt and Joe Lieberman have no problems with S 1034 too.

This is just great! The Dems really do want to ban PRE-BAN TYPE assault weapons and John Kerry is publicly leading the charge.

1. Great Wedge Issue for the GOP
I say we give Republicans a wedgie on this one.

There's a lot of dumb posturing on assault weapons. 60 Minutes has had brilliant reporting on the farce that this whole thing has become with the manufacturers. It's very much like how the Chrysler PT Cruiser is a "truck" according to the federal government. (Yeah, right.)

2. You got it!

The ban will never be renewed. Bush forced Feinstein to continue her "gotten around" current ban and the all the media could do was crow" HE'S BUCKING THE NRA AND SUPPORTING A BAN ON ASSAULT WEAPONS!"

Then you've all these grassroots folks from traditionally Democratic anti-gun voting groups like the VPC and Handgunfree America upset at Feinstein and Chuck Schumer.

Barbara Mukulski is ticked at Feinstein for pushing her current law and Frank Lautenberg introduces a much tougher ban that is just being ignored by EVERYBODY. Clearly the Democrats are fractured on this issue. Neither ban has enough support from Democrats to pass clearly.

And meanwhile gun makers remove flash hiders from AR-15s, call them "match target rifles" and sell them legally.

No Dem has the balls to support a stronger ban or no ban. They just want to maintain status quo and win West Virginia again.

10. They are match target rifles
Prone I can keep my shots in a 4" circle at 200 yards with mine, and I suck. I know this because I shoot matches with it and I finish low in the standings.

Why on earth would anyone want to ban perfectly good sporting equipment like match target rifles? Could it be some sort of phobia? Perhaps therapy would help.

That the rifle of choice is the AR-15.

4. LIES about John Kerry's Position
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 02:20 AM by BallaFaseke

....."Both Dean and Kerry support reauthorizing the assault weapons ban, a measure now before Congress. However, Kerry supports strengthening the ban by also forbidding the sale of copycat assault weapons. Dean only supports reauthorizing the ban.

"Sen. Kerry's position is stronger and we applaud him for that," said Josh Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.

"What Dean's going to do in the future is sort of unknown.".... SOURCE: Des Moines Register

Hey Johnny! Then why did ya endorse S 1034 instead of S 1431, huh?

You DO NOT support a stronger AWB. That is a TOTAL LIE.

6. Kerry is trying to have it both ways
I have to conclude that Kerry doesn't really give a shit about the issue, rather he sees it as one of a group of annoying subjects for which no strong statement one way or another is likely to produce the desired result (i.e. winning the nomination and eventually the Presidency). He answers questions about it because he has to, but given his "druthers" the issue would simply go away.

9. That and Feinstein's got him by the balls
Support my ban or I withdraw my endorsement of your campaign. She is popular in CA and has endorsed Kerry.

5. what about a Saiga?
"Never been deer hunting with an AK-47?"
Lots of people have never eaten a hot dog with Sabrett-style onions. :eyes:

http://www.eaacorp.com/firearms/saiga/rifles/saigawords.shtml

It is a well known fact that the AK is one of the finest rifles in the world. The original AK plant and the office of KALASHNIKOV is in the IZHMASH factory in Izhevsk Russia. Now the IZHMASH factory brings you the sporting version of the world famous AK and they call it "SAIGA". Yes, there are some changes such as:
- Hunting stock / forend
- Standard capacity magazines
- Wide range of calibers or gauges
- Sporting sighting system

But under the hood lies the famous AK action / design, built by the original AK factory. Standard features:
- Hammer forged chrome lined barrel
- Machined steel bolt
- AK side scope rail
- Polymer magazine and iron sights.
