New Hampshire firing a shot across the bow of the Fed Gov't
http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2009/HCR0006.html

New Hampshire HCR-6 Demands Return of Power to New Hampshire Based on Jeffersonian/Constitutional Principles
A resolution originating in the New Hampshire state house is receiving momentum in New Hampshire. If passed into law, it would return power back to New Hampshire like the founding fathers intended. It provides six reasons that justifies New Hampshire's secession from the federal government. I will list the six, and then provide the link if you wish to read the entire resolution. Let's hope this legislation spreads from New Hampshire into the other 49 and sends Congress a clear message. We will not allow our natural rights to be walked on.

I. Establishing martial law or a state of emergency within one of the States comprising the United States of America without the consent of the legislature of that State.

II. Requiring involuntary servitude, or governmental service other than a draft during a declared war, or pursuant to, or as an alternative to, incarceration after due process of law.

III. Requiring involuntary servitude or governmental service of persons under the age of 18 other than pursuant to, or as an alternative to, incarceration after due process of law.

IV. Surrendering any power delegated or not delegated to any corporation or foreign government.

V. Any act regarding religion; further limitations on freedom of political speech; or further limitations on freedom of the press.

VI. Further infringements on the right to keep and bear arms including prohibitions of type or quantity of arms or ammunition.

The representatives in New Hampshire who have written this resolution understand the limits of the federal government as Jefferson intended. This will block nationalized health care and other socialization in New Hampshire. The debate for the resolution begins on February 5th. Let's hope they are successful in passing this as the law of New Hampshire.

1. But Jefferson didn't write the Constitution...
and he lost most of his arguments to Hamilton. Even his BFF Madison let him hang out to dry on some things.

(And, remember the last time some states took on Washington-- how'd that one work out?)

4. As I recall, awhile back there were some states in the south
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 12:37 AM by RJ Connors
who also asserted their right to secede from the union and if memory serves me correctly, it didn't work out all that well for them.

On Edit: I looked up the status of this bill and it is sponsored by 4 Republicans. I decided to check the status as Item #5 seemed to be pretty vague and could be interpreted several different ways. However, seeing it is sponsored by Republicans I'm thinking item #5 means that we are going to declare N.H. a Christian state.

The status can be found here: New Hampshire General Court - Bill Status System HCR-6

15. and will you tell us who the sponsors of those bills are

or do I have to do all the work around here?

The first listed sponsor of the New Hampshire bill is an egregiously right-wing asshole.

How about for those others?

20. huh

So I picked one of those Democrats at random. (You will of course recall that I have still said nothing about Democrats or Republicans.)

http://www.mcguire2008.com/

And there at the top of her website:

And a bunch of others. I guess when you have two choices, you have to pick one.

Arizona. Odd place, it seems. So where's Florida?? I think Florida Democrats can be counted on to do the wrong/stupid thing much of the time. They seem to be dragging their feet here.

17. Who Cares?
The substance seems more important than the sponsors. Rights aren't just for right-wing assholes. Unless, of course, the source is more important in your mind.

25. I give up
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 08:46 PM by iverglas

I seem to have offended someone.

Perhaps it is wrong to point out that, once again, the only source we have defending these alleged rights live in right-wing cesspools ...

(Yeah, there were a couple of Democrats in the list posted elsewhere here. We do know that I, like many people who vote Democrat in the US, hold no more brief for the Democratic Party as a whole than I do for the Liberal Party where I'm at, unless we're talking purely lesser-of-two-evil, politics-of-the-possible electoral strategies. There are good Liberals, and there are good Democrats. And there are others.)

18. This bill seems to be gaining popularity.
I read about a very similar bill in Arizona being passed recently. I must say that I like this resurgence in State Rights. The Fed as for far too long overextended their authority. The Interstate Commerce Clause has been perverted into something it was NEVER meant to do.
