Some recent gun-related problems
Jonathan Rodriguez, 17, Newark, Del. a home-invasion suspect batted on a door with the butt of his handgun, which fired into his groin.

Joshua Michael Short, 18, Houston, (got up from a table at Memorial City Mall food court and bumped the gun that was in his waistband, firing a round into his buttocks.

Detroit police officer Michael Allen, 22, tried to cram his gun under the front seat of his car at a Canadian border-crossing, but it discharged into his leg.

Sounds like 3 contenders for the Darwin Award.

1. that isn't a gun problem, that is operator/user stupidity
Calling it a "gun problem" sounds misleading to me.

Sorry, I probably shouldn't tease you. Perhaps we need another text icon for 'tongue wedged tightly in cheek'.

5. Worth noting that the guy who puts together NotW
Chuck Shepherd, had to announce that he would no longer run stories about firearm safety instructors shooting themselves or others in class because they were so common as to no longer be weird...

31. Since Virtually All Instructors are NRA Certified.....
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 09:36 PM by CO Liberal
...I'd say the odds are in my favor. Many organizations (such as the Boy Scouts) require NRA certification for their instructors. When it's all said and done, I have no problem with the NRA's gun safety programs (except for the insipid "Eddie Eagle"). What I object to is their political actions, and their leadership assholes (LaPierre, Nugent, Heston, Barr, etc).

PARIS (Reuters) - A French hunter was shot by his dog after he left a
loaded shotgun in the trunk of his car with two dogs and one of the
animals accidentally stepped on the trigger, police said Wednesday.

The man, from the village of Espelette in the Basque region, was admitted to a
hospital in the nearby town of Bayonne Monday with leadshot injuries to the
hip.

"As he was driving along, one of his dogs accidentally set off the gun," said a
police official.

Who would have thought someone could shoot himself with a car? I guess some guys really are more resourceful than I thought.

26. The same
'amount of stretching and convoluted logic' some people use to justify freespeach, freedom of religion, the right to not incriminate yourself, the right to be secure in your home and papers, the freedom to peacefully assemble, the right to a free press, the right to remail silent, and so on and so forth...

Oh..That's right, the Second Amendment only applies to the National Guard which hadn't even been thought of at the time the BoR was drafted, ratified, and signed.

But the REST of the BoR is about individual rights...

29. The Bill of Rights
It disgusts me when so-called "liberals" who selectively support a broad interpretation of the Bill of Rights argue that only the state has the right to possess arms. They'll argue that free speech includes nude dancing, art involving human excrement, and flag burning, but that the one amendment they despise has an interpretation that fits in the confines of a thimble.

25. Let's look at this closer...
Jonathan Rodriguez, 17, Newark, Del. a home-invasion suspect batted on a door with the butt of his handgun, which fired into his groin.
So, this guy was breaking into a house and shot himself in the groin. Seems like poetic justice to me. A criminal with a gun gets hurt. No loss here. Too bad he didn't bleed out and save us taxpayers some money.

Joshua Michael Short, 18, Houston, (got up from a table at Memorial City Mall food court and bumped the gun that was in his waistband, firing a round into his buttocks.
Once again, someone breaking the law. 18 and in posession of a handgun, concealed, no less. See final sentence above.

Detroit police officer Michael Allen, 22, tried to cram his gun under the front seat of his car at a Canadian border-crossing, but it discharged into his leg.
Imagine that...a COP breaking the law, and shoots himself. Once again see above.

(Associated Press, 7-20-03; KPRC-TV (Houston), 7-2-03; Windsor Star, 7-8-03)

Just because a person gets injured using a gun doesn't mean the gun is at fault. Just 3 examples of people breaking the law with guns, and then the media blaming the guns for the results.

(all from News of the Weird)

27. I don't think anyone was trying to say the guns were at fault, were they?
The news items were picked up by NOTW because of their coefficient of er, 'inattention to detail' on the part of the victim/perps.

I posted them because, while I firmly support the RKBA, I'm not all that keen on dopey behavior. And because they were funny, for small sad values of funny.
