Torn between two Berettas....
I would appreciate your thoughts on which of these two fine pistols to sell. This will be on consignment at a reputable deal who will do an FBI check before selling.

I have to liquidate some of my firearms because I just bought some expensive telescope eyepieces and have to justify the purchase. Also, I can only shoot one at a time. So, I've got five guns in 9mm Para. caliber. Beretta 92FS Inox, Beretta 90-Two, Beretta Cx4 carbine for 92 magazines, Browning High Power (1978) with custom trigger, Sig Custom Shop 239 SRT SAS (night sights, Crimson Trace).

I'm going to sell the Cx4 for sure. And since the Browning is my current favorite range gun, that's staying. The Sig is staying too for future CCW use. So, now I have one too many Berettas.

The 90Two is presently the next-to-the-bed pistol as it has a lamp and laser sights. It also has a built in recoil buffer, glove-friendly trigger guard, removable front sight. The handle is a bit more ergonomic than the 92. On the down side, the handle is hard plastic and cannot be replaced, atypical recoil spring assembly, few holsters available. If I sell it, the Sig will be the new emergency pistol. It has night sights and a laser, but no lamp. The sights are clear and easy to see. The factory recoil buffer gives it a mild kick.

The 92FS is a typical Beretta 92, except for the silvery color and factory rubber handles. One cannot spit without hitting 92FS parts and accessories. While the handle is a bit wider than the 90Two, it has rubber panels which are a more forgiving and easier to maintain a tight grip. The smallish front sight cannot be changed, but I do have the the LPA adjustable rear sight (which makes it a little more consistent than the 90Two). Plus, it is really pretty. I've added a Butler Creek recoil buffer which works, but not as effectively as the 90Two's factory unit.

The trigger on both is about the same with a little edge MAYBE going to the 90Two.

As a side note, I originally bought the 92FS as something to shoot every weekend without beating the crap out of the pricier 90Two I had bought earlier. Since then the used Browning has taken over that function.

1. as far as preference.....
I personally prefer the 92FS--However, that's not really what you're asking. I guess you would have to ask yourself if you will get the money you put into the 90Two back. If not, the 92FS might be a little easier to sell because it is such a standard pistol with easy to find parts. It also sounds like you feel very comfortable with the 90Two. I guess you just have to decide which one you will be more likely to use. Tough one either way. Good luck

5. I actually prefer the grips on the 92FS.
They are both really good shooters. And either one will sell pretty quickly. The dealer has no Berettas in his case. He can't get them.

I actually just sold an 84F Cheetah in .380. He sold that in two days despite the fact that he doesn't have any .380 ammunition in stock. The Sig replaces the 84F.

10. 84F Cheetah
Edited on Mon May-18-09 02:13 AM by Budgies Revenge
is my conceal/carry weapon. I bought one about five months ago and couldn't be happier with it. It took forever to find a holster maker who could make something for me (which sort of suprised me), but I've had no complaints from the gun itself. I actually noticed a few of our local gun shops were out of Berettas at the moment too. I agree that you could probably sell either one pretty easily at the moment.

11. They are among the best of the .380s.
The reason I sold mine was because my wife could not rack it and because there was no way of putting either night sights or Crimson Trace on it. The 9mm lockup on the Sig 239 as opposed to the direct blow-back on the Cheetah means that my wife can rack the slide and it has a milder recoil. It is certainly not as pretty as the nickle-plated Cheetah. Also I would be retiscent to rely on anything but top-of-the-line rounds in a Sig while Beretta can eat anything.

2. If I had the cash, I would talk turkey on the Browning Hi Power
I have wanted one of those for a long time, but cash is tight, so I can't....

6. I feel your pain.
That's one that isn't going anywhere. I have already added rubber grips and a custom trigger. All I have to do now is figure out how to improve the sights. It has those front blade sights built into the slide. At some point I may have the smith remove it and cut a dovetail for a better sight.

9. Love them Hi-Powers
Theres 31 of them sitting in my safe right now all but one is pre-1983 and it's a Novak custom in 357sig. Years ago a good friend of mine who was a Sheriff over in Martin County gave me an old T-series and that started my addiction. Since then all one had to do is mention Hi-Powers and I go on point. In my opinion they're the finest pistol ever built.

4. Tough call.
I would hate to need to part with any of my Berettas.

The 92FS Inox might fetch a slightly higher price due to it being Inox. However, those market conditions might make it harder to replace if you wanted it back later.

Since you have the 90two slightly tricked out and already pulling protection duty, I would lean towards selling the 92fs. (New black ones are easy to find at reasonable prices.)

7. Well, I paid $800 for the 90Two and about $600 for the 92fs.
Of course that was when they were actually available retail. Now the only thing in the Beretta case at the shop is moths. The only thing added to the 90two is the laser-lamp which attaches to the front rail. The 92fs has a Butler Creek recoil buffer and an LPA adjustable rear sight.

8. Those prices sound about right.
Although $800 for the 90two seem a tad high. Seattle-area shops have the standard black 92fs going for $450-500 the last I checked.

12. I love my CX4
I'm surprised you're selling your Storm. It's probably my favorite firearm in my collection to shoot.

13. It's nice, but I hardly ever shoot it.
And in my paranoid end of the world scenarios, it is hard to see how a pistol caliber carbine would be as effective as M4 or something else that uses proper rifle ammunition.

15. I figured.
Well, I bought my civilian AK47 for the end-of-the-world scenarios, but I figure the CX4 is nice because it has a relatively high capacity (15 rounds - you can get 20 round magazines), and an extremely common caliber of bullet.

How much you want for your CX4? What state are you in?

16. You are a funny guy, Deep13
I too own a Beretta 92fs in INOX finish as well as a Browning Hi Power. I have been dusting off my C-8 in order to use it for astro photography.

That said, the Beretta is the winner of the group, imo. Parts availability is part of it, the other is that the thing is rugged. Somehow, if our parallelism holds, I suspect that the Hi Power is Belgian. It is a fine piece of machinery, don't get rid of it.

Unless you are really pressed, I wouldn't sell anything. I got rid of my collection 10 years ago and have regretted it since (sold a mint Python 357 grrrrrrr).
