Teen burglary suspect killed
On Tuesday morning, 14-year-old Ta’veon Tashawn Mason should have been at his desk at Austin High School, but he and two friends skipped school.

Police said the ninth-grader died in a Southwest Decatur backyard from a single gunshot wound. A press release said a resident shot him inside the house during a burglary at about 10:30 a.m.

Police said the trio broke a window at the back of the house and entered.

“The homeowner was asleep inside and was awakened by the intruders,” said Sgt. Rick Archer, supervisor of the Violent Crimes Unit. “He retrieved a handgun and confronted them.”

Archer said the man fired one shot, striking Mason, and the two other teens fled the house. Outside the home, a white sheet covered Mason’s body as it lay in the grass near the window where police said the break-in occurred.

11. It's a true event
It actually happened and it's not spun. How is it propaganda? Do you not get the part where the kid made the bad choices that lead to his death?

13. Propaganda is not necessarily untrue
Propaganda is information disseminated for the purpose of influencing opinion. It can consist of lies, it can consist of the truth, it can consist of a mix of both. The most insidious propaganda doesn't tell any falsehoods, but it doesn't tell you the whole truth.

12.  Not "pro-gun propaganda"
But the result of the bad decisions made by people. Some result in no harm at all, others, unfortunately, result in the ultimate price being paid.

14. That sword cuts both ways
There's no shortage of anti-gun types on this forum champing at the bit to post every criminal use of a firearm as anti-gun propaganda, so how come you don't get your panties in a bunch over those?

6. I mean no matter where you stand on the guns issue you think people would realize...
35% of homes have firearms.

Breaking into a home you run a 35% chance of picking the wrong home.

I mean less 3% of people have CCW and I would guess than less than 1% are carrying at any particular time.

You risk of getting shot in a burglary has to be somewhere around 35x higher than robbing someone on the street.

15. assuming it is done in an isolated area
because while your VICTIM might be unarmed, there very well be an armed person nearby

not too long ago, an off-duty officer in downtown seattle shot some guy who was robbing a citizen. it happened in pike place iirc.

22. If the residents are at home.
Since this was a daytime burglary, I think the intruder was expecting an empty house. Oops. He chose poorly.
