People that were GUN VICTIMS THEMSELVES are more likely to think that EASIER ACCESS TO GUNS will reduce crime.

6. I can understand why people would feel that way...

I met several people who were victims of a armed robbery who suddenly developed an interest in firearms and shooting.

It's nice to be anti-gun when you set in an ivory tower or when you live in a questionable neighborhood but have never had the misfortune of encountering an armed and crazed individual high on alcohol or drugs. Some people change their minds after getting the shit cared out of them and realizing just how close they came to being seriously injured or dead.

Life comes at you fast. Sometimes very fast.

Your preconcieved notion what are you going to d W/ the information? People that have been the victim of "gun crime" ( as opposed to "baseball bat crime" or "knife crime" or "tire iron crime"?) Fell like they may have had a chance to fight back had they been armed, why is that so mind boggling?

9. Makes sense to me

People who were victims of a gun crime probably reckon that the law did not make it harder for their assailants to lay their hands on a gun, but did make it harder for their victims to do so.

ETA that I'm far from convinced that more widespread firearms ownership would reduce crime, though that depends heavily on whether you're counting only completed crimes, or are also counting attempts.

It was a long time ago, over forty years ago, but I can still remember it clearly. And I do believe that gun laws do nothing to hinder crime and where they are overly strict they make things easier for criminals by disarming the victims.

Being a little left of center does not make someone anti-gun. The right to bear arms is for me the ultimate vote. The biggest threat to our liberty comes from our own government. Defending ourselves from criminals is a plus too. The problem is the number of illegal handguns and law abiding citizens in some areas are terrorized by those punks carrying illegal weapons.

I am glad the Dems have toned down their push for gun control. If they had done it sooner maybe Bush II would not have been elected.

Another reason to be have guns is to protect ourselves from some of these right wing wackos. Have you been on the townhall web site? There are some scary wackos out there who seem to be itching to go on a liberal hunt.

Definitely. Anne Richards vetoed the "Shall-Issue" bill that the Texas legislature put before her, and put herself on the side of the gun-grabbers in Texas. Bush made his promise to sign that bill one of his central themes in his campaign.

If Anne had signed that bill, Bush would not had an emotional hot button to campaign on. We can thank the gun-grabbers for the W's presidency.
