CA Republicans support Jerry Brown for Govenor

The title of this post is a bit confusing, but its the general consensus I've been getting from the calguns.net forums, the membership of which is overwhelmingly republican. But if you remember that most RKBA advocates are single issue voters, the reason becomes quite clear.

Meg Whitman's former companies, ebay and paypal, had and still have extreme anti gun policies. No good for RKBA.

Tom Campbell believes that the CA AWB was successful, and that the 2nd Amendment does not protect an individual right to self defense despite the Heller case (sound familiar?). He has been using the "cop-killer bullet" and "no sporting use" canards in responses to Q&A sessions on his website. Honestly, the guy is like a DU anti-gun poster who hates gays, taxes and free healthcare on top of the gun stuff. Terrible for RKBA.

Poizner hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell of winning, so no point there.

I don't think I need to explain why pro-gun voters would support Gavin Newsome.

Jerry Brown, on the other hand, is downright progressive when it comes to guns. As CA AG he has reigned in the DOJ doorkickers who previously had free reign to harass legal gun owners, preferring to target felons and street gangs as the source of gun crime. Brown also filed an amicus brief in the Chicago case urging SCOTUS to grant cert and hear the case. Here's an excerpt from that brief.
"This Court recently held that the Second Amendment prevents the federal government from denying citizens the right to possess handguns in their homes. District of Columbia v. Heller, 128 S. Ct. 2783 (2008). But the decision did not resolve the more important question of whether this limitation applies to the States through the Fourteenth Amendment. The petitions in these cases should be granted so the Court may address this question. In granting the petitions and ruling upon the merits, the Court should extend to the states Heller’s core Second-Amendment holding that the government cannot deny citizens the right to possess handguns in their homes, but also provide guidance on the scope of the States’ ability to reasonably regulate firearms."

It's interesting that the CA Republican party has fallen so far out of contact with its base. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, is the only choice for republican gun owners. And I'll wager that his moderate stance on the issue will get him a big pile of formerly republican votes in the election.
