U of Colorado Bans Nerf Guns on Campus
DENVER | It was a rough week for gun rights in Colorado.

First, Colorado State University voted to ban concealed firearms on campus.

Then the University of Colorado went a few steps further and cracked down on another nefarious threat: Nerf guns.

Plans for a student-led game of humans vs. zombies took a hit after campus security officials discovered that players intended to use the popular orange-and-green toy weaponry. Simulated guns, even those that shoot spongy Nerf balls, are banned at the University of Colorado.

They have to keep those students safe from those deadly "assault nerfs." Think of the children!

1. They can have...
my tactical hacky sack when they pry it from my cold, dead (or at least passed out cold) fingers.

3. I think it's time for us all to reread the OP on
how to deal with the Mental problems of anti-gun people and take notes.

The nuts know they are losing the political battle, and are letting the insanity hang out. They have nothing to lose, I guess.

4. They'll have you up on terrorism charges,
and manufacturing weapons of mass destruction, and genocide, and ...

They ship you off to another university for prolonged, secret interrogation without any student body representation.

6. That is a really fundamentalist move.
It's not about safety; it's about perceived moral purity.

11. Some memorable lines....
D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...

Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!

Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let's do it.
Bluto: *Let’s do it*!

13. CU-Boulder police chief: Nerf guns no laughing matter
Campus police enforcing longstanding policy
By Joe E. Roy, For the Colorado Daily
Posted: 12/06/2009 06:47:37 PM MST

... CU has not enacted a new "ban" on Nerf guns in light of last week's game of Humans vs. Zombies. No guns of any kind -- real or toy, from air rifles to paintball guns to Nerf guns -- are allowed on campus under the laws of the Board of Regents. We are simply enforcing a longstanding policy, not inventing a new category of enforcement.

Second, we never indicated that we would arrest people with Nerf guns and treat them "as we would people with real guns." What we said was that if we received an emergency report of someone with a gun on campus, we would respond to that threat as if it involved a real gun, even if it turned out to be a Nerf gun.

The facts about Nerf guns on campus have been understated in the reporting of this story. In 2007, Alfred University in upstate New York underwent a two-hour lockdown after a faculty member reported a student with a weapon that turned out later to be a Nerf gun. A similar report prompted a police response at the University of Maryland last year ...

Complicating all of this are two dangerous trends: one in which Nerf guns are painted black to look like assault weapons ( ow.ly/JnCC ) and another in which real guns are painted to look like colored toys ( ow.ly/JnDi ) ... http://www.coloradodaily.com/news/ci_13941142

14. I'll give you this s4p
"Complicating all of this are two dangerous trends: one in which Nerf guns are painted black to look like assault weapons ( ow.ly/JnCC ) and another in which real guns are painted to look like colored toys"

This is the one part of this issue that should actually be taken seriously. And honestly, I don't think there's a great solution to it other than, again, addressing the real causes behind crime. Things like the NY toy gun ban are, in the long run, counter productive I feel. They take away resources that could be applied to the root causes of crime itself, as well as distracting people from those causes. Because if the above shows us anything, it's that people will find ways around the system when they want to. The best course of action is to go after motivations to do so, and that brings us back to poverty and education ultimately. (This is speaking mainly about people painting real guns to look like toys, not the other way around).
