And paint it, and put rubber protector stuff on the hook parts.
I say it's priced just right!

Because, as you know, all responsible gun owners store their firearms in a manner so as to make them inaccessible to unauthorized persons.
Like children.
Seems to me that this contraption sets the trigger just low enough to allow a toddler to pull it.

Keep the firearm stored during the day, and use the rack at night if you're so inclined.

The manufacturer specifically says the product is not intended for households with children.
Anyone who already owns a gun either already has a locking device and uses it, or not. This gadget won't make any difference.
My shotguns are locked up right now.

When I lived in Tampa without any children in the house, I had loaded firearms in the house. I unloaded them and stored them when my grand kids were in the house.

How do you lock it?
With your front door deadbolt.
Gun safes are great, and I highly recommend them in homes with children.
But your typical California Department of Justice-rated safe is not going to take any more effort or time to break into than the front door of your home.

|
and reading various books on shooting, I can't remember a single person ever keeping their shotgun with a shell in the chamber, or reccomending that anyone do so. Most shotguns are not made to be drop-safe, so it's not a good idea to keep the chamber loaded. Show me a toddler with the motor skills, upper body strength, hand size, and wingspan to rack the slide on a shotgun and get it into firing condition.

But I know quite a few guys who have taken their FALs into the shower. Admittedly, the purpose of the exercise was to get the weapon clean (you have to oil it immediately afterward, you understand), not in case the Sovs invaded while the person was in the shower.

But with a child in the house I keep everything locked up. I really like the "gun vault" electronic handgun safe I keep on the nightstand. If this was configured more like that for a long gun I would be very interested in it.

it probably wouldn't be all that challenging to attach an electronic safe to this. I imagine it being hinged at the bottom, with a bio-scan pad on top. Press thumb to pad, "top" and "side" of safe fall open to the side and gun is free to be lifted out.
The box could cover the entire trigger/safety/chamber area of the gun.
Anybody got a pistol-sized bio-vault we can hack up to see if this works?
P.S. I swear to god if anyone steals this idea and makes millions I'm suing....pressing "print screen" in three....two...one....

22. You probably won't engage, but consider the National Safety Council... |
|
which says that firearms-related accidental fatalities are at record lows. Further, those accidents involving youths CONTINUE to decline. This during a 10-year period (1995-2005) in which gun ownership by civilians went up from 190,000,000 to some 290,000,000 (estimates for current ownership are around 330,000,000). This decline in accidental deaths may be explained by proper storage and locking of weapons AND proper instruction of children in the safe handling of weapons.
Don't get so upset about gadgetry. And what it might do.

|
During the day, it gets the standard capacity 15 round mag and gets carried in my holster. Ever shoot a gun in a quiet dark room?... yeah, silencers for the win.
I like the feel of a pistol over a shotgun. More maneuverable and keeps one hand free. Plus my only shotgun is a 28" over/under... probably only good if ducks or pheasants invaded my house. If I had a serbu shorty ($$$+NFA), I'd probably use that - but I can't justify $800+ for that currently.

33. That's one of the few downsides of living in Washington state |
|
You can legally own a suppressor here, but it's a gross misdemeanor to actually use it for its intended purpose. (The bittersweet part is that the laws contains no exemption for law enforcement, so technically, the various SWAT and SRT units in the state frequently violate the law, but to my chagrin the state A-G has made it policy not to prosecute those offenses.) A bill was introduced last January that would have exempted any suppressor "legally registered and possessed in compliance with federal law," but it appears to have died in committee.
I have three year-old toddling around, so I don't leave any firearms unsecured. I have a "Titan Gun Vault" quick-access lock box (with a Simplex push-button lock) bolted to my bed, containing a S&W M&P40 full-size, with an extended magazine (19+1 rounds), Crimson Trace laser grips, night sights and an Insight M3 light. It normally stays in the lockbox; for CCW, I have an M&P40c, also with CTC grips.
I have Benelli Supernova and an AR carbine both set up for defensive use, but I really intend them for larger-scale crises, e.g. natural disasters complete with loss of power, possible partial breakdown of the social order, and overburdened law enforcement.

45. I understand some European countries REQUIRE hunters to use silencers... |
|
The thinking is that the noise from a high-powered gun not silenced would be disturbing to other animals and the immediate ecosystem. Here, where hunting is quite widespread, and hunting lands can be vast, silencers are banned because (I suppose) their quite reports could not be detected by game wardens. This partially explains why .22s and other rim fires are not allowed for deer hunting.
