What countries actually have a total gun ban?
AFAIK, Australia, Britain and even Japan have strict, but existing legal methods for civilians to own guns. But what country actually bans them completely from civilian ownership, with no legal way to own one?

1. Singapore, Malaysia are two countries that I have lived in where even a single bullet
will generate prison.

The entire time living in both countries I never heard of a single fatality by use of a gun by either police or civilians.

There were a couple of stabbing deaths.

2. It's still possible, in both Malaysia and Singapore
Unlicensed possession of firearms or ammunition will get you into hot water, and licenses are damn hard to get, but it is theoretically possible. Otherwise, I doubt there would be a Singapore Gun Club: http://www.singaporegunclub.com/?MAIN

7. Singapore is a quasi-police state
Their citizens pay a very high price to be "safe".

8. Yep, spitting in public, chewing gum, littering, all jail-time offenses.
Thanks, but no thanks.

9. I have read that drug dealing, first offense, is the death penalty.
Some years ago there was an American teenager who was convicted of vandalism. (Spray painting graffiti)He was caned, four licks as I remember. Caned means that he was hit on the naked buttocks with a pole made of rattan. There was quite a controversy at the time. Googled, found it: http://www.nytimes.com/1994/06/27/us/teen-ager-caned-in-singapore-tells-of-the-blood-and-the-scars.html

3. The People's Republic of China
The People's Republic of China only permits private ownership of airguns, maximum caliber .177 (4.5mm), though you can rent firearms at shooting ranges open to the public. There are quite a few guns in illegal circulation, largely siphoned off from the arms manufacturing industry. Apparently, Norinco has pretty lax security and inventory control.

4. The most dangerous entity--
the state--is always armed.

Anyone who doubts that states are the most dangerous entities should study 20th Century history, comparing killings of innocent civilians by private civilians to killings of innocent civilians by states or state supported actors. It's not remotely close.

And yet who is crying out for keeping guns out of the most dangerous hands of all?

6. Agreed,
When people call for more gun control I like to say something like "yeah, the world would be far better off if all the police and military folks weren't allowed to have guns." Hilarity generally ensues.....

5. Oh, it's a safe bet North Korea doesn't allow private firearms ownership either
Hell, North Korea doesn't seem to allow private ownership of much of anything.

12. Don't alof the Island nations/territories in the carribean have total gun control?
If I recall, even the officers didn't have guns when I visited.
A tour guide mentioned that they have super strict gun laws, as well.

13. Most African countries
have very strict gun laws restricting arms to the military and police. But Rwanda, Eritrea, Darfur are shining examples of what you can accomplish with farm implements!

Nothing like tribal animosity and religion to get blood in the streets.
