Birmingham police release account of East Lake robbery, slaying

An armed robber was killed and two store owners, a customer, and a second suspect were injured by gunfire in a botched robbery attempt Thursday night in East Lake, according to a statement issued by Birmingham police late Thursday night.

Three armed suspects "and one of the store owners exchanged gunfire" inside the store, according to a police statement.

One suspect was killed and another shot in the leg. Two store owners, a man and woman, and a female customer were injured as well. None of those injuries are believed to be life threatening, police said.

I would like to see more info on this one. As a general rule, gun owners are taught not to start the gunfight unless there is no choice, especially if there are innocent around. But if the goblins start shooting, or act like they are going to, (An example wold be the goblins telling everybody to get into the back room.)then opening fire is justified.

"Slaying", while technically correct, certainly has negative conotations not appropriate to reporting of a self-defense death.
