Fireworks stand operator kills one robber, seriously wounds another, third escapes.
http://www.thetowntalk.com/article/20091226/NEWS01/912260310

One dead, one wounded in shooting at stand

One person was killed and another seriously wounded Friday night as a fireworks stand operator shot at three suspects who attempted to rob him and another person.

According to Capt. Matt Davis with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, two people - and man and a woman - were closing the Crooks' Fireworks stand at the corner of South MacArthur and Jeff Davis drives around 6:20 p.m. when they were approached by three young adults. Davis said all three were armed with handguns.

One of the two operators opened fire with their own weapon. One suspect was killed at the scene, another was wounded and the third escaped. The wounded suspect was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, and the third suspect was captured a short time later, said Davis.

According to certain antis who regularly post here, the bad guys were supposed to get an automatic victory because they already had their guns out. What went right here? The good guy was outnumbered 3 to 1 by armed goblins, and the GG put one away, one in the hospital, one to flight. I suspect that the GG took training and range time.

27. It is wise in many instances for the unarmed to flee armed opponents.
Of course this is an INTELLECTUAL battle, so it would be wise for an idiot to flee.

Which begs the question--is "wise idiot" a contradiction in terms?

44. I presume you mean "Gandhi." Here is what Gandhi said:
"Taking life may be a duty... Suppose a man runs amuck and goes furiously about, sword in hand, and killing anyone that comes in his way, and no one dares to capture him alive. Anyone who despatches this lunatic will earn the gratitude of the community and be regarded as a benevolent man."

Elsewhere, "Fatalism has its limits. We leave things to fate after exhausting all the remedies. One of the remedies and the final one to relieve the agony of a tortured child is to take his life."

-- All Men Are Brothers. Life and Thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, Navajivan Pub. House, Ahmedabad, 1960.

You would agree that Gandhi's passive philosophy was a bit more muscular than the saccharine stuff peddled in the late 60s?

18. Nope, just pointing out that that truly evil agressive people are not contained by pacifism.
Whether on the small scale of a mugging, or the grand scale of global war, violent evil can only be contained by counter-violence. I have guns to be able to protect myself and my wife from violent felons. I strongly believe that self-defense is a natural right, and that includes access to the tools of self-defense.

I have asked you several times, and each time you have avoided the questions. What tools would you allow a citizen to procure to be able to defend themselves.

23. I read a short story a while back
Main point was that England collapsed in WWII, and a German Army went through Persia and occupied India. The Britsh Army there had a formal surrender to Germany and Field Marshall Walter Model was appointed Germany's Governor of India.

The story revolved around Gandhi organizing protests against German occupation.

Model ordered Gandhi arrested and had a talk with him the gist of, hey Gandhi, you're an interesting little man. I like you. So keep yourself out of trouble.

After a few more protests, Model orders his troops to fire on the marchers and Gandhi is brought in again. Again, Gandhi visits with "The Fuhrer's Fireman," explaining the theory behind non-violent resistance this time while Model is having lunch. Again, Model tells Gandhi that he's enjoyed talking to him, but then orders him taken out for the "noodle" at which point, Gandhi is taken into the courtyard and shot in the neck.

The story ends with the Field Marshall asking his aide how he ever got such good sausage into India so quickly. "An excellent lunch," he summed.

It may have been by Harry Turtledove. Not sure.

49. Gun use cheerleading
A normal person does not have the glorification of weapons and their use to kill people as a core component of their self-identity unless something traumatic and violent happened to them to cause that. Either that, or they live in such a fearful and insecure state of mind from moment to moment, that they constantly imagine a threat is imminent. I am not sure where you live, but if it is at all economically possible, if your life is constantly in that direct of a threat, you really should move.

I hope you can get some mental health counseling for whatever happened to you, so you don't have to live your entire life equating your ability to kill other people, for whatever reason you wish, as being safe.

Your posts are quite disturbing and concerning. Your overt cheering the use of guns to kill people is very alarming.

I hope you get some help.

50. I think he is cheering the victory of the defender over the aggressor.
Edited on Mon Dec-28-09 09:09 PM by TPaine7
A mentally healthy person who was under threat of death would be happy about being rescued from the threat. If a hostage taker had just shot the two people next to you and was adjusting his sights to kill you, you would be quite rational to "cheer" or "thank" or "applaud" or "cheer lead" or "approve" or "be grateful to" the police sniper who destroyed his brain, saving your life.

It is also mentally healthy to be glad when someone else is saved from a threat you would want to be saved from. Empathy is healthy. I would be happy if a police officer killed an attacker when appropriate to protect a member of my family. Why should I not be happy if he killed an attacker to protect my neighbor? Or someone I don't know? Why should I not be happy if a family member, or neighbor or someone I don't know defended themselves from a deadly threat?

Isn't the real mental health issue the failure to make a moral distinction between the guilty and the innocent, between the attacked and the attacker? Or, alternately, isn't the real mental health issue the failure to empathize with the intended victim of a violent assault and be glad when the innocent person prevails?

51. Actually, there is another reason that I post self-defense stories.
It is to point out that they actually do happen in real life. People really do use guns to defend themselves.

If my posts are disturbing to you, it is because they challenge your core beliefs that the best self-defense is no defense. Violent crime exists. Denial of that fact doesn't help. Instead I choose to be prepared to deal with it if it comes my way.

I just feel bad that statistically speaking, either yourself or someone you know are the only people ever likely to be shot by one of your many firearms.

Please, get some post-trauma counseling for whatever event(s) has locked this fear-based interaction you have with the world into your psyche and requires you to broadcast your eagerness to use firearms (which seems to be the only reason you post here) in order to feel safe...before something happens.

I am only trying to give you some constructive feedback so you can get some help - normal people do not fixate on using firearms like you do. Something is wrong. Investigate it and get some help.

I can tell you the incident that happened to us - a guy burst into my old workplace and started shooting. He got off one shot and missed, then was himself shot dead. I didn't spend a whole lotta time weighing statistics, legalisms and pro's and con's, all I knew was that the shooter was stopped by another shooter.
