Pro-Gun Victories In 2009
http://www.newwest.net/topic/article/the_year_of_the_nra/C41/L41/

National parks will now follow the laws of the states that they are in with respect to guns.

Amtrac will allow guns in checked baggage.

Dept. of Defense is prohibited from destroying used brass cartridge casing, and certain ammunition and small arms. DoD must sell them on the market.

65 Democratic congressmen signed a letter sent to Attorney General Eric Holder expressing their opposition to his call for reenactment of the 1994 Assault Weapons

The Ensign Amendment. With this amendment, the Senate repealed the D.C. gun registration statute on a 63-36 vote, including 23 Democrats.

DeFazio-Dent Amendment. Congress approved this amendment, which improved the armed commercial airline pilots program.

Price Amendment The House Financial Services Committee voted 38-31, to protect the 2A rights of residents of public housing.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), specifically to pacify the GOA, (Gun Owners of America)and the NRA, inserted last-minute language into the Senate bill stating that no wellness program implemented under health reform could require disclosure or collection of any information relating to gun ownership.

At the state level:

Arizona, Florida, Louisiana and Utah stopped businesses from barring employees from storing guns in cars parked on company lots.

Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, South Carolina and Virginia made some or all handgun permit information.

Arizona, Kansas and Montana allowed handgun permits to be issued to people who have had their felony convictions expunged.

Montana and Tennessee exempted weapons made and owned in-state from federal restrictions.

Tennessee allowed gun owners to take firearms onto sports fields and playgrounds.

Montana, and Ohio joined 22 other states in passing the Castle Doctrine.

Numerous states entered into concealed-carry reciprocity agreements, to honor each other's permits.

Several states have made it illegal to ask a job candidate if he owns a gun.

We did take a few defeats. The Thune amendment didn't make it. We were two votes short of what was needed to cut off the filibuster. We will try again.

California enacted micro-stamping laws.

1. I will never ride Amtrac again!
Thanks for posting that. More people need to know how our trains are becoming more and more dangerous. The Republicans want to revert us to the Wild West.

6. Which is the same way that guns fly every day on airplanes.
Chances are good that most major airline flights have at least one gun in the checked baggage.

12. Firstly, the "wild west" wasn't really that "wild."
So you might want to check into that. Secondly, thanks for sharing you irrational fears with us. The poorly maitained tracks are a much larger danger than any firearms in checked luggage ever will be.

14. Well, don't fly on (wild) North West Airlines or any other airline. Guns are aboard...
In most airports, you can bring guns into the terminal (properly cased) so that they may be inspected and checked-in. They are riding below your seat, greennina!

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was...

Remind me not to let you in on any of the real dangers of travel....

Edit: I hope you don't fly/train in or out of Arizona, you'd have an attack of the vapors.

17. No, what is truly dangerous are people ignorant of the facts, like you.
Do you even have an idea of what the ruling on Amtrak trains was? If you did, you would not make ignorant statements like that.

21. Well I don't suggest driving either ...
there's a good chance that the car beside you may have a loaded firearm inside. And it just might be LEGAL.

Florida is just one state that allows this:

Florida is a "shall issue" state, and issues concealed carry permits to both residents and non-residents. Florida recognizes permits from any other state which recognizes Florida's permit, provided the non-resident individual is a resident of the other state and is at least 21 years old.<43>

Vehicle carry without a permit is allowed either in a snapped holster in plain view, or when the firearm is concealed if the firearm is "securely encased". "Securely encased" means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access.<44> (Note: this legal condition is not the same as "encased securely.") Vehicle carry without a permit is permitted when concealed even if it is not "securely encased" if the firearm is not "readily accessible". Vehicle carry on one's person inside a vehicle without a permit is not allowed. emphasis added

In fact in many states, you better just stay home because there a lot of people licensed to carry legal concealed weapons in most of the states. Just order stuff off the internet and have it delivered to your house. Get a good TV and watch the Travel Channel.

Of course, you could live in Chicago. Chances are only the criminals will have guns there, as they don't obey laws by definition. They also tend to ignore other laws that deal violent with crime such as murder, robbery and rape.

But since honest citizens rarely have firearms in Chicago, you should feel safer there.

Good Luck, I'll say a prayer for you.

Did you know that all airlines already allow the carrying of firearms in checked baggage?
