Semi-auto ban introduced into Washington state legislature
The proposed state ban is Senate Bill 6396. Washington Democrats, please tell your senators and representatives to reject this bill:

3. Yeah, right.
Good luck making that work. The price of enforcement alone would bankrupt the state.

4. That is BS
Any pistol that accepts a magazine...
I had an old 1911 that rejected its magazine. Would that still count?
And incest with a child under 14. 14 and up they are apparently good to go in Washington.

So far we have been lucky that it dies in committee every time.

12. Does he like terrorists and gangbangers and drug dealers but
hate the RKBA?

Does he hate his job? If that is the case, arrangments can be made about 10 months from now to help him in his first step to find new employment.

13. From what I have read,
his seat is secure enough that no other Dem will challenge him and no Rep stands a chance. This situation has lead to multiple groups getting a politely phrased "too bad for you" letter when suggesting legislation that he does not like, from what I have heard third hand.

19. Bad legislation is like a bad fart...
You may be the only one who created it, but everyone else around you (including your political friends) has to put up with it. The voters of his district should put 2 and 2 together and tell this guy to quit pulling this stunt; it doesn't help his party.

15. As will this one, most likely
Better keep an eye open in the highly unlikely event that it does get out of committee, but unless and until it does there's no need to get our panties in a bunch.

8. There were 190 murders in Washington in 2008. All rifles combined accounted for 2.
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2008/data/table_20.html

Yeah, banning popular rifles makes sense. 2/190 is OVER ONE PERCENT!!!!!!! Be afraid!!!!!

9. it will never pass (imo) constitutional scrutiny
it's kneejerk legislation and clearly contrary to section 24 of the Washington State Constitution...

thanks for bringing this crap bill to my attention

"SECTION 24 RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men."

and yes, it does not mention semi-autos, but with such strong constitutional protection for RKBA in WA (thankfully), this law will NOT pass strict scrutiny requirements.

not even close

So kindly take your attempt to suggest that all pro-RKBA types are ipso facto uneducated yokels and shove it far, far up your prejudiced backside, kthxbye.

20. Actually, it's legislation like that which harms the Democratic Party...
This legislator may be in a "safe" district, but fellow party-members in other districts have to put up with trying to explain to voters that they don't support this crap.

If you believe have of the stuff attributed to the NRA, you may conclude that this organization has a way of tagging not only individuals, but other Democratic Party members with the actions of others.

BTW, would you propose this legislation if you were in the legislator's place? Do you think your Democratic colleagues would appreciate it?

23. At least the bill's authors actually provided a definition
(22) "Barrel shroud" means a covering, other than a slide, that is
5 attached to, or that substantially or completely encircles, the barrel
6 of a firearm and that allows the bearer of the firearm to hold the
7 barrel with the nonshooting hand while firing the firearm, without
8 burning that hand, except that the term does not include an extension
9 of the stock along the bottom of the barrel that does not substantially
10 or completely encircle the barrel.

That definition is wrong, of course, in that describes any forend that isn't "an extension of the stock" (like on this semi-auto, detachable magazine-fed rifle: http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=002B&cat_id=031&type_id=534 and this one: http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-750/model-750-woodsmaster.aspx and this one: http://www.benelliusa.com/rifles/benelli_r1_rifle.php and arguably every pump-action shotgun in existence) but it doesn't describe an actual barrel shroud, since a barrel shroud is not intended to allow the firer to hold the barrel, but to guard the firer against inadvertently touching the hot barrel. (And besides, strictly speaking, if you're holding the shroud, you're not holding the barrel, now, are you?)

It also fails to answer the second half of Tucker Carlson's question to Carolyn McCarthy, namely "and why should it be banned?"

25. Someone should compile a reference chart of
"barrel shrouds" similar to the one used by so-called journalists that shows the various visuals of AK-47's.
