Senior charged in Ohio car shootings

BEREA, Ohio — A 65-year-old man was arrested and charged with shooting at moving cars in the Cleveland suburbs.

Paul Hausmann is suspected of shooting at four vehicles in Berea since mid-August and at a fifth in Strongsville, his hometown, in mid-December, Berea Police Chief Mark Schulz said in a news release Friday. No one was hurt.

Hausmann was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony assault and carrying with concealed weapons, Schulz said. He had a revolver and ammunition “consistent with the caliber rounds recovered at the shootings,” Schulz said. He did not offer information about a possible motive.

The shootings had led police to increase patrols in the area and talk with residents. The announcement of the arrest came a week after authorities posted a $5,000 reward.

Berea is southwest of Cleveland and is home to Baldwin-Wallace College and the Cleveland Browns’ practice facility.

The shootings recalled earlier sniper cases.

In 2006, a Columbus man was sentenced to 27 years in prison for shooting at cars and buildings in central Ohio in late 2003 and early 2004. One person was killed.

4. I was in the area last month

I was warned about a sniper at large. It would be simple to give in to terrorists - foreign or domestic - but things need doing so I just said 'fuck it' and went about my business. Glad this miserable fuck is in custody.
