74 year old gun owner "didn't know" he can't carry guns at elementary school

Truly frightening.

Luckily, school was not in session.

The goal of the NRA and open-carry/armed-society organizations is to normalize the appearance and acceptance of guns in our culture. That is the business they are in. The 2nd Amendment is just a heart-string tugging emotional entry way to get people loyal to their brand, and their brand is guns. This is about a billion dollar armament industry. Nothing else.

1. You're lying in your headline.
He wasn't at the school, he was near it.

These little lies are one of the reasons you and the rest of the grabbers are such a fringe group.

2. Its all true - here I will highlight it for you
" he and his girlfriend took a shortcut through a field at Allen at Steinbeck School"

Sorry.

He was on school grounds.

3. Trying to put those pants out?
"At school".

You know what you were trying to do with your misleading headline. It's ok, I understand why grabbers pull little tricks like these. Your arguments and positions are flawed so you have to try something. It's like any type of anti-choice tripe.

4. What is this, a last word contest?
There are no "tricks" here, I don't write the articles.

The guy was walking through a sports field at an elementary school, as reported, he was on the grounds of a school.

Take it up with the reporter.

8. It's the way it was done.
Malicious wording. He's bending the language and that's the least of it.

7. Huh. I was under the impression it was illegal to OC in incorporated territory in California

In other words, you can only OC outside the city limits, and the gun still has to be unloaded.

I don't understand what's supposedly "truly frightening" about open carry in general, and this instance in particular. People who intend to use their firearms for criminal purposes tend to not carry them openly. Handguns are the most common type of firearm used for crimes precisely because they can be concealed; short-barreled shotguns and rifles have to be registered under federal law (and are banned for private ownership in a number of states) because they can be carried concealed (under a particularly bulky coat). I'd have been happier if the guy had invested in a good holster covering the trigger guard--shoving a handgun into your waistband is generally not a good idea--but then again, we're talking about an unloaded revolver.

This is about a billion dollar armament industry. Nothing else.

Two million, actually, if you count ammunition sales (for most years, that is; business has been more brisk the past year). To put that in perspective, Americans spend about $6.2bn a year on cut flowers, and $1.98bn on flowers and plants for Mother's Day alone. In 2002, Americans spent $2.29bn on Christmas cards. As of 2005, the revenue of the "adult entertainment" industry was estimated at $12.9bn, while the professional and college sports industry turned over an estimated $213bn.

10.  You would really not like the CCL laws in Texas
They are simple and easy to understand. You can CCL on the school grounds, parking lots, and open spaces. But not inside the buildings.

12. Well, that makes sense.
That must be because the people who would go into buildings and shoot up schools have CCW permits and follow the law against carrying inside the buildings. Therefore, mass shootings inside school buildings are prevented!!

What the hell. "Gun Free Zones" are a joke. Unless it's a secured area with metal detectors and guards, it's not a "gun free zone" and those in authority responsible for such a policy should be held personally liable if they offer no means of security and outlaw self defense.
