Looks like it's time for CCW holders to "Meet at Peet's!"
After reading this here at DU:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=118&topic_id=286541&mesg_id=286541

about open-carry activists being hassled while meeting at Peet's Coffee shops in California, and then reading this statement
from a Peet's spokesperson here:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/scavenger/detail?entry_id=56281#ixzz0e2wsUbkh

...Days after the San Ramon confab, a TV station in Sacramento discovered that a local Peet's posted a policy banning customers from openly carrying guns. A company spokesperson confirmed the rule in an email to The Scavenger:

While Peet's Coffee & Tea respects and values all individuals' rights under local, state and federal laws, our policy is not to allow customers carrying firearms in our stores or on our outdoor seating premises unless they are uniformed or identified law enforcement officers....

I propose this for willing CCW holders (I can't join the fun as I do not own a firearm):

At a certain date and time, TBD, concealed weapons owners meet at a local Peet's store that does not have a legally
valid notice prohibiting guns
- this must be a legal demonstration. Do not advertise the fact that you are armed.
If asked to leave by management, DO SO- quietly.

I hope to force Peet's into posting their corporate policy about guns in *every* one of their stores.

As I said in the prior thread, I plan to watch the hilarity at the Peet's in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

13. Look up what "brandishing" means, at least legally
You'll find that "brandishing" is generally taken to mean having the weapon in your hand, and using it to make menacing gestures. A weapon is not generally not regarded as being brandished if it is merely being carried visibly, e.g. in a holster, scabbard or slung over one's shoulder.

At most, a holstered handgun might be regarded as being "brandished" in a legal sense if it is carried concealed, and the carrier sweeps the cover garment aside to reveal it in the course of a confrontation; or if it is being carried openly, if the carrier places his hand on the grip as if preparing to draw it.

22. The teabaggers with guns were trying to generate an emotional resposnse.
AFAIK, few of these halfwits actually violated the gun laws of whatever locality they were in.

They were free to excercise their rights, just as I am free to declare them a bunch of imbeciles

I just thought they were stupid, not dangerous. However, I did find it somewhat amusing that they elicited in certain
segments of society the exact same response that the Black Panthers used to get when they would go out in public
bearing arms.

Looks like some right-wingers remembered those days, even if some 'progressives' didn't.

really cool you feel the need to resort to name calling when you just got owned. In any event, CWP holders shoot people up sometimes. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700005762/Teacher-fatally-shot-in-parking-lot.html "She is a concealed weapons permit holder, and her most recent address is in Taylorsville."

How's that for journalism sea-boy?

6. Is your house open to the general public?
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 07:11 AM by Euromutt
C'mon, you do understand that there is a difference between a private dwelling on the one hand, and a commercial establishment that is privately owned but open to the general public on the other? Opening a commercial establishment to the general public doesn't mean that you're therefore also required to let your customers into your house.

And corporations, being legal but not natural persons, don't even have dwellings.

If so, fine. I don't ask any more from you than I would from any other proprietor.

If everyone is carrying concealed, and nobody tells anyone they're carrying concealed, how will they ever know it happened?

You might try a statistics class. It seems your skills are a little lacking in that department.
