*Virginia.* Senate special panel likely to kill House bills expanding gun rights
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 02:56 PM by Tim01 2.0
Anne Bartlett

The chairman of the Senate Courts of Justice Committee this morning announced that he was creating a special subcommittee to hear a collection of bills dealing with guns that have passed the House of Delegates, including a proposal to repeal Virginia's law limiting handgun purchases to one a month.

The committee's membership leaves little doubt as to the outcome: Chaired by Democrat Sen. Toddy Puller (D-Fairfax), the committee will also include Democrats Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) and Sen. Louise Lucas. Each have a long history of opposing such bills. The only Republican serving on the subcommittee will be Sen. Fred Quayle, who said recently he does not favor repealing the one-gun-a-month law.

A special committee to deal with gun bills, almost all of whom are pro-gun-control democrats.

4. This is actually very bad.
From what I read these people are all from places where their anti-gun agenda will be rewarded. So they kill all the pro 2nd amendment bills, and won't suffer for it. The rest of the entire state won't have much say in it.

This was the worry at the beginning of the session, and now people are very PISSED, ,including many Democrats..... It is if a few, anti-gun democrats, have declared war on the rest of us.

Sadly, now the call is to knock off "TWO DEMOCRATS" in the Senate's next election, to keep the few anti-gunners from having any recourse.. They can be knocked off, anywhere in the state...

That is all it will take...two....

But still, several pro gun bills are well past any reach this committee has.

With the current political climate in the state, and US, they just picked a fight that they will loose big when election time rolls around, and sadly, it won't be none of those assholes on the committee that will feel the burn...It will be other Democrats, in close run districts, who even if they are pro gun, will loose due to the need to "deal with this panel".

Gun Owners, are very "tactical voters"....They understand committee assignments and such..

Many, will vote accordingly, if it means voting against a friend..

6. "Virginia democrats declare war on the 2nd amendment."
is how this is going to be seen. And you know as well as I do there are a whole shitload of gun owning voters who just knew something like this was only a matter of time.

7. Exactly...
It is so frustrating how Democrats just don't get it. As I said in an earlier post. THERE IS NO POLITICAL GAIN TO TAKING AN ANTI-GUN STANCE!! Now the Dems will be hurt by it. It will not hurt those two in Fairfax, but others. My guess is the headline will be "Democrats block pro-gun laws in Senate."

sorry for the caps, but this party is just so f'ing frustrating sometimes.

18. The sad part is that the Republicans will use this to prove ...
that Democrats are still anti-gun.

This could hurt the party on a national level.
