.. and even then, Chicaco will pull a DC and implement a byzantine, high fee registration scheme.

It'll be years and years before we get real reform, one case at a time.

25. Yup the long fight.
It took decades for the antis to slowly grind down the 2A.

It isn't going to be restored overnight.

Every year a combination legislative action, lobbying, fund raising, holding elected official accountable, and lawsuits will slowly inch by inch restore the 2A.

90%+ of the fight is fought at the state level. I don't expect the federal govt to get more "pro RKBA" but can try to keep the line static there.

17. In 2008, according to the FBI, there were over 1,300,000 violent crimes in the U.S.
And that is only the reported violent crimes. Many aren't reported. I choose to not live in denial of the possibility that I could be targeted by a violent felon. Instead, my wife and I choose to be prepared, just in case we are unlucky enough to be some thug's selection for next victim.

Last year I was unlucky enough to be in an auto accident with a person who had an arrest warrant on him and the police said the was listed as "armed and dangerous". (He attempted a U-turn on an Interstate.) He was captured as a result of the accident. You never know what life is about to throw at you. A few years ago a mugger was about to attack my wife, but her .38 convinced him to run away - no shots fired.

19. It won't pass. Perhaps you should review the procedure for ammending the constitution.
It takes 3/4 of the states to ratify and amendment. That means that any 13 states can block ratification. Since 40 states have adopted shal-issue concealed carry, I don't think we would have any trouble finding 13 to block it.

Let us know when you can get one congresscritter to introduce such an item into congress.

22. I actually agree with you.
If you really don't like the 2nd Amendment, think it is antiquated etc., then by all means support an amendment to water it down. This is what pro-gun control people should have been doing during the 60s. That is a debatable arguement and although I don't agree with it, respect it.

What I DON'T respect is people who want to pretend that 2A does not exist, or that we can shortcut changing the constitution. The Founders put in place a tough, but doable process to change it.

27. +1. No reason to attack him.
The founding fathers intended the Constitution to be adaptable however they also made it rather difficult for changes to be made to temporary political pressure. As such out of the thousands of proposed amendments only 26 have ever been ratified.

However it CAN be done.

I have 1000% more respect for someone using the legal authorized framework to modify the Constitution than I do for the deniers who want to pretend the 2A doesn't exist and infringe upon it at will.

That being said I will do everything in my power including donating time, money, and resources to ensure it never happens but I see no reason to attack or insult him/her for suggesting it.

46. SCOTUS says "in United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U. S. 542, 553 (1876), '[t]his is not a
right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The Second amendment declares that it shall not be infringed".

Presumably it is not possible to amend our Constitution to ban RKBA.

In a GDP nation over 10 trillion.

That there's big potatoes.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. You'll thank us later maybe, when the SC stands up for other rights under attack. Frankly I'd prefer all these cycles were spent tearing down FISA, the Patriot Act, and getting rid of telecom immunity for corporations that enable breach of our 4th amendment rights without warrant.

But there's this group that keeps trying to infringe upon another of our basic rights, so, it's an issue we have to deal with.

I mean, poor, naive Mr. McDonald (amongst others) couldn't possibly have decided all on their own that they want to own handguns, now could they?
