Police: Teen boy shot friend, not brother, in gun-twirling accident
ST. PETERSBURG — Police have determined that the 17-year-old boys involved in an accidental home shooting Thursday are not brothers but are "close friends."

In earlier releases to the media, police said the boys were brothers after one shot the other while twirling a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun on his finger Thursday.

Police said Devontae D. Butler, 17, shot Turkelle F. McIlwain, 17, in the right shoulder inside Apartment 225 at Mariners Pointe Apartments, 1175 Pinellas Point Drive S. late Thursday afternoon.

Butler told detectives that he found the gun.

4. Another thug with a gun.
Butler was charged on a warrant for probation violation. More charges related to the shooting could be coming, police said.

Not old enough to legally own a handgun, and already with a criminal history.

Is anyone surprised?

5. A good example of why firearm safety should be mandatory in schools. Thanks.

6. The poor kid didn't have a father or mother qualified or able to teach gun safety
That's why it should be taught in public schools.

7. Well, finally Irving got 3 slugs in the belly. It was just outside the Frontier Deli...
While standing there twirling his gun around.
Butter fingers Irving gunned himself down.

9. Stupid/negligent shooting.
Not accidental.

Is "keep your booger hook of the bang switch" REALLY so hard?

11. I guess it really is
Which is why I try to take all my friends and family shooting. Instill respect for the firearm and knowledge of its operation and it loses its aura of fear. Plus its never a bad idea to know how to use one.

Finger in the trigger guard = bang, doesn't get much simpler than that
