USA Buys 14 Million+ Guns in 2009 - More than 21 of the worlds standing armies
Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for the year reported 14,033,824 NICS Checks for the year of 2009, a 10 percent increase in gun purchases from the 12,709,023 reported in 2008.

So far that is roughly 14,000,000+ guns bought last year!
The total is probably more as many NICS background checks cover the purchase of more than one gun at a time by individuals.

To put it in perspective that is more guns than the combined active armies of the top 21 countries in the world.

Note to those standing armies. DON'T even think about invading.

30. No. He was right. The US is freakishly paranoid.
Most thing "they are out to get me." and justify buying 20 guns.

33.  Have you checked OBama's website, the DNC platform,
listened to Hillery, Pelosi, or Eric Holder? Get a clue, they all are/were wanting to ban/outlaw firearms.

7. I did my part too
Although I only bought 1, a Taurus Millenium Pro PT140. Got a bad magazine out of the box that kept causing a jam but got it replaced and haven't had a failure since.

13. Of course, that's not counting reserve stocks
Any army with a mobilizable reserve component is going to have large numbers of small arms packed away. And it doesn't count paramilitary forces, such as those operated by the theocratic component of the Iranian government (the nahad-e movazi, or "Parallel Institutions"). The Iranian Basij is thought to have a full mobilizable strength of around 1.4 million.

24. We must have lots of reserve
Remember when our soldiers in Iraq said the 5.56 wasn't powerful enough for the mission?

They dusted off a ton of reserve M14s and issued them to the troops.

That's early Vietnam stuff we still had lying around!

17. These number do not include NICS exempt purchases either.
I bought 10 but all were NICS exempt do to my Texas CHL.

3 AK type stamped receivers
1 AK type milled receiver (screw in barrel)
6 AR receivers (they were only $55 each!)

19. R Guns had them. They bought out a company that went out of business.
Forged receivers at 55$ each and it was only 20 bucks shipping for the lot. Oh, and the real kicker - they are all consecutive serial numbered! Give R guns a call, maybe they still have some. . .

20. There is one flaw in their logic
They are assuming that one NCIS check equals one gun. I can tell you that many people last year (Me included) got more than one gun, and put it on one NCIS check, so the true number could be 15 million or more.

21.  Another flaw, If you have a Texas CHL then you are exemt from the call
Texas CHL holders are exempt from the NCIS call. They simply show their lisence and the FFL puts the liscience number on the form. No check needed!

I don't know in how many states the CHL can be used this way.

Valid CCW exempts you from the three day waiting period, but they do still do a NICS check when you buy.

The mass quantities of firearms that we purchase are not recorded as background checks either.

23. It also doesn't count failed checks
I talked to my local gun dealer.

He said you wouldn't believe how many people come in with obvious disqualifying criteria and submit to the NICS check.

Some people are just dumb.

Yes, my dealer often forwards such information to the police for a follow-up.

Had the police come and apprehend a guy on the spot once. Violent fugitive felon, apparently.

37. Guy takes his pickup in for service. There is an assault rifle stuck in the inner fender under the..
hood of the vehicle; I guess he thought the cops wouldn't see it there, if he got stopped for something.

Service manager reports it to boss, boss calls the cops. Cops do an ID check on it, verify that its on the banned list and call the customer and tell him his pickup was ready.

He comes in and they cuffed and stuffed him into the back of the squad car after they verified that he was the owner of the illegal weapon.

He will probably get out early on good behavior at 7 years served, but that felony will last forever.

It pays to obey the laws, even if you dont like them.

That evil rifle probably was black in color. I bet it had one of those sinister flash hiders or a nasty bayonet lug too. Both could have been removed; which would have deemed the former evil rifle just a "Sporter". What great laws.

glad I don't live in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, the state is going broke, the politicians don't trust their citizens with certain guns, Here in my little town we had some Kalifornians move here and try to push KA. style gun laws, needless to say they no longer live here, not because of threats, but because of their inability to "educate the citizens of Nye County of the wonders of gun control" I got an idea, why don't you stay in KA along with all your gun control comrades and build your paradise and leave the rest of us alone, Oh I forgot, your paradise is going belly up because of mismanagement by the politicians
