NRA pushes to rescind ban on guns in Delaware public housing
http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20100306/NEWS02/3060358

The National Rifle Association, one of the most potent lobbying forces in American politics with a bankroll to match, has sent letters to all four authorities asking them to rescind their bans or face a lawsuit.

The threats have left authority officials scrambling for legal advice, sparked a House bill to remove the authorities’ power to implement such policies and prompted an emphatic letter from Gov. Jack Markell that the legislation would reverse other firearms restrictions statewide.

Great!!! Just because you are poor and live in public housing you should not have to give up your basic civil rights.

2. ,,,,
Chances are, if you are unfortunate enough to live in one of these hell holes you need a gun. Sadly, public housing tends to attract violence, drugs, and wanton crime.

3. I didn't know this was the case
It sounds blatantly unconstitutional.

You're in housing because you're poor.

That means lack of money denies you a constitutional right.

Wow, and it brings me back to the origins of gun bans in this country.

Who mostly occupies Delaware public housing?

Blacks, of course.

The first restrictive gun laws in this country were directed at blacks.

Don't want them ni**ers gettin' uppity and being a danger to the white folk, you know.

Let them get some power and they might start thinking they can enforce their rights.

And it's still here. North Carolina requires "proof of good moral character" shown to the sheriff before buying a handgun. That was a code word in the past for not allowing blacks to buy handguns.

4. Ditto with the Michigan "handgun safety inspection"
Until the law was repealed last year, anyone who purchased a handgun in Michigan was required to bring it to a police station or sheriff's office to have it inspected for safety. The truth is that what was being inspected was more often than not not the handgun, but the skin color of the purchaser. A black guy and white guy could walk in with the same model of handgun, and the black guy's could be declared "unsafe" while the white guy's was no problem.

Never assume that racism towards blacks is something limited to the South.

5. And I'm sure the seriff or police office kept a qualified gunsmith around at all times.
Yeesh, how onerous.

Glad the folks in Michigan don't have to put up with that any more.

6. It should be rescinded.
Gun control is often racist and classiest.

7. I bet most of them are black too
black people with guns scare me.

:sarcasm:

Talk about behind the curve, screwed by economic conditions, and then the government lines up right behind it, to screw you again and make SURE you can't protect yourself if someone decides to take your meager posessions, dignity or life.
