"Fairbanks gun-rights advocate arrested on weapons charge"
FAIRBANKS -- Police say a local gun-rights advocate was arrested this week for failing to notify an officer he was carrying a concealed weapon.

This the same guy that was arrested for spousal abuse last month and joked about it.

1. If he is convicted
he should have his CCW revoked. Don't know what your point is.

Informing a police officer that you have a weapon on you is CCW 101 in Alaska. Maybe they should get a better spokesperson then this moron.

5. Maybe he was too drunk, or too high to speak. Jees give the guy a break already.
Ok, seriously though. He probably should have had his CHL revoked on the domestic charge till that got sorted out.

Texas you are supposed to inform also - failure to do so can result in a suspension of your CHL.

it's a good idea to let the cops know if you are pulled over

7. In Alaska it is mandatory to inform a police officer that you have a weapon on you.

10. Unfortunately people cannot pick exactly who they want as a "spokesperson"
I did not get from the story how this person is considered a "local gun rights advocate". The story states that he is part of the Liberty Bell network. From what I read, they are a group of people that claim they watch for government violation of individual rights. In my personal opinion they are right wing reactionaries founded right before the election of President Obama in fear of a Democratic government. The group mentions nothing specifically about advocating for gun rights.

The guy is an idiot to be sure, both for failure to notify the officer of the concealed firearm (if convicted) and for the domestic violence charge. However, for the paper to characterize him as a "local gun rights advocate" is biased and inaccurate without the evidence to back that claim.

They could have said, "Local Liberty Bell network member" or "Man belonging to self described, Patriot group" but to highlight that he is a "gun rights advocate" just because he got caught with a gun is sensationalistic.

11. They do when they sign on to and attend meetings sponsored by him.
The paper is correct in their story. He is well known in the Fairbanks area as a "spokesperson" and "advocate".

9. It is. But having to state you have a weapon on you is part of the law.
Plus there are places were guns are not allowed. I believe they are banks and bars.
