As you all know I am all for fire arms for protection, and I'm for everything else to use before deadly force. So, here's the story. Last fall my GFs grand daughter went off to college, a freshman. One night, while asleep a man jumped on top of her. She fought him off and screamed. The others on the dorm floor saw him leave and ID him. Well, she was ready to quit school and come home. I told her not to and I'd help. First, the cops, she felt were blowing her off on the whole deal. I told her to go the station and demand to see the Chief. She did and he took action. Lots of patrols and a PPO on the perp. Next I order her some cheap door alarms. The guy had come thru the suite bathroom that has no lock. The university said she could not put any on. These alarms are only about 10 bucks and scream when some one touches the door knob on the other side. No guns allowed and she is afraid of them anyway, so I got her some legal mace with a dye in it. She felt safe again and stayed in school.
A week or so ago her door alarm went off. All the other kids in the dorm came out and saw the same guy. The cops came and asked if she wanted to press charges for violating a PPO. She did. Now this shit head will never be able to buy or own a firearm and if he spends enough on lawyers he might stay out of jail.
Cheap alarms work. The same ones are sold for when you have to stay in a hotel. Great warning so you can get your firearm out in time, if it didn't already scare them away.
Stay Safe

5. I also have the Tele-spy phone |
|
at the bottom of the page. When I go away I put in my cell number. If it detects motion it calls me and I can listen in on what is going on. Then I have the Sheriffs # on speed dial. Much cheaper that the $29.95/month fee to have a company monitor my house.

If you can stop the bad guy early without shooting, that is a good thing.

6. I would love to see schools start a mandatory Martial Arts training |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-24-10 07:30 PM by LakeSamish706
for girls beginning at a very early age. Make the course last either for their entire schooling or until they have achieved substantial training in it. I know that given our current economic situation that this has a snow balls chance in hell of happening, but I can dream.

18. I'm with you on the martial arts training |

IMHO all girls & women should get some realistic SD training. For OP - check at the school, many colleges have a martial arts club that is usually inexpensive.

9. I see the problem here... |
|
"The guy had come thru the suite bathroom that has no lock. The university said she could not put any on."
At this point you need to tell the U to pound sand, put the lock on yourself, and go straight to the nearest T.V. station to report how the U is assisting rapists. The alarm is a good idea, but as is obvious, not nearly effective enough. What if no-one had responded to the alarm?
"No guns allowed and she is afraid of them anyway..."
Again the U can pound sand. Her choice, of course, but since the U has patently abrogated their security responsibility, her legal liability for having a firearm would be about nil. The downside being, it might take some expensive lawyering to get this recognised as a fact. Better than dead or raped, IMNSHO.
I hope she is not too traumatised by this experience, and continues to be vigilant. May peace be on your family.

13. If perp got past alarm |
|
she is now armed with mace. I was trying to get her to stay in school. After her second year she can move out of dorms. Putting illegal locks on door could get her kicked out..
Lots of what ifs. The deal is that she feels safe enough to stay. The bad guy got caught when he tried the second time and it all only cost me less than thirty bucks. I'm really happy she told cops that yes she would testify against him. That takes some guts from a 19 year old girl. Cops said there were other complaints but no one would press charges.
Also because she pressed the issue with the Chief she got the extra patrols and attention. I've found that regular duty cops can tend to blow things off. Supervision is responsible for the department and law suits. I've had some bad deals with cops and have learned to go to the top. I have found police chiefs and Sheriffs to be really great with me. Because she sought this extra level of help she got a PPO on the guy. That sealed the latest deal.

14. I am glad everything worked out well. |
|
Just saying, if the U "forbids" locks on the doors, they are putting themselves into a very bad legal situation that you could easily exploit if something bad happens.
And if it were my relative, and a choice between an "illegal" lock and very bad things, there would be a lock on the door and the U would hear from a lawyer and a TV station if they made a fuss. Perhaps even if they didn't. They should have put a lock on her door after incident #1.

I'm a retired gunsmith/firearms instructor.
My normal introductory story to new shooters goes like this:
I'm walking my dog. As usual, I'm carrying one OR MORE firearms on my person.
I pass a group of three young punks. Talking about what they whether they are going to rape and then murder your (you choose - wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, grandmother, etc) when she gets to them. Or just kill her for fun. I can see her approaching rapidly.
Should I:
A) Keep going, because HEY, it's none of my business?
B) Keep going, but call the police and report what I heard?
C) Pull my weapon and BANG, BANG, BANG, three dead perps who will NEVER discuss whether they will RAPE your (wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, grandmother - you chose)AGAIN.
Guess which one I CHOOSE?
I've had to present my weapon on two specific occasions where I was responding to a threat at hand. In both instances, the bad guys decided running away was smarter than facing an ARMED victim.

you would choose the one that would make you a felon and a murderer, but would still allow you to brag about how big your internet penis is.

penis reference, you gun grabbers just can't help yourself can you? That's why your side is losing because all you do is insult and use emotion instead of facts
Go home little person and when you grow up and want a serious debate, come on back
