16-year-old boy shot and killed in Antioch
ANTIOCH — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Thursday night after someone opened fire on his vehicle as he was leaving an apartment complex near the Somersville Towne Center, police said.

Five people have been taken into custody and are being questioned by police, but their level of involvement was not immediately known, Lt. John VanderKlugt said.

The shooting was reported about 11:10 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 3900 block of Delta Fair Boulevard. Mark Knight, 16, of Antioch, was identified by the coroner's office as the victim.

Police say Knight and some family members were arguing with another group of people in the complex when Knight's group decided to leave. As they were driving away, someone fired several shots at them, and one of the bullets penetrated the vehicle's back window and struck Knight, killing him instantly, VanderKlugt said.

4. Gang/drug related
He was shot with illegal weapons that were being held illegally. I thought there were laws to prevent that.

I know, MORE gun control laws would prevent this. :sarcasm:

3. Antioch is going to hell in a handbasket
every other house is in foreclosure or for sale. Many old timers I know that live there want to move away from Antioch, even with their Prop. 13 taxes in effect. Many of the homes there were selling for close to $500,000.+ during the boom. Now you'd be lucky to get $125,000. for a home in Antioch.

Why it has gotten so crime ridden in the past few years is beyond me.

In any event, a GUN would not have helped this 16 year old boy. In fact, the LACK OF A GUN would have likely prevented this article having to be written!

:dem:

6. Actually, the lack of a gone would certainly have prevented the article from being written.
At least, written about somebody being shot with a gun (can't be shot with a gun if there is no gun). But then again, that's not even the point. Unless you can come up with a law that criminals can't easily subvert (such as drug laws) then it seems like this story has much deeper issues than the involvement of a gun.

7. it is suspicious
you are right, who knows what is involved.

Why has Antioch become so crime ridden? That is what I don't get.
