Carjack victim shoots suspect to death in 9th Ward

A man was shot dead by a motorist he tried to carjack in the Lower 9th Ward late Wednesday, police said.

Joshua McElveen, 24, approached a man in a pickup truck in the 1800 block of Lamanche Street about 9:30 p.m., according to authorities. He pointed a handgun at the man and told him to open the door, NOPD spokeswoman Hilal Williams said.

The unidentified truck driver refused. Williams said the truck driver pulled out his own handgun and fired several bullets at McElveen.

10. Yup
With the usual excuses:

1) He was a good boy who hooked up with bad friends
2) He was turning his life around
3) Excessive force was used
4) No one would have died had the driver simply given up his truck
5) Guns as a solution to guns - no points awarded

etc. etc. yada yada. You get the drift.

5. Motorist was VERY lucky in this case.
I'm sure he waited for the carjacker to be distracted. Kept his cool. I'd say the odds are against successfully getting the drop on someone with a weapon pointed at you.

A man told police that after walking his dog at the park, four males attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The man, a licensed handgun carrier, pulled his weapon, shot one of them and shot at the black truck the men were using, Capt. Sansom said.

Ultra bad reporting the rifle in question was an SKS.

Police: Security guard with assault rifle kills 2 suspected robbers

A parking lot security guard shot and killed two suspected robbers with an assault rifle Wednesday night in a strip mall near Executive Airport.
2200 West Red Bird Lane

Police said the incident started around 11:30 p.m. when three men attempted to rob the security guard in the parking lot of the shopping center in the 2200 block of West Red Bird Lane.

Two of the three men got out of their car, pointed a gun at the security guard and told him to get out of his vehicle, Dallas police Sgt. Ray Beaudreault said. The security guard then pulled out an automatic rifle, fatally shooting one of them. The other fled on foot.

The third man began to drive away when the security guard, who told police he feared for his life, shot and killed the driver, Sgt. Beaudreault said.

The suspect who fled on foot returned to the vehicle about 15 minutes later to retrieve his cell phone. That’s when police arrested him and charged him with aggravated robbery, police said.

Sgt. Beaudreault said it was unlikely that the guard would be charged in the deaths but the case would be referred to a grand jury.

11. An SKS is an "assault rifle" AND an "automatic rifle"?

that not everybody is prey and you can't tell the sheep with fangs from those without.
