Democrat Killer
As we approach the fifth anniversary of this article published by The Nation (Sasha Abramsky) I'm reminded that it's no less important today than it was then -- despite progress made:

1. Hehe, quite a few whoppers in there..
and they point out that one of the few gun-control successes in recent years was the assault-weapons ban, which, until it expired last year, helped keep extremely potent weaponry off America's streets while not limiting hunters' rights to own less powerful arms. "They're not good for public safety, and they're not good for public health," says Bill Jordan of New Mexico Voices for Children. "People don't want them, but there's a powerful gun lobby. And that's very sad."

I would point Mr. Jordan to the sales figures of AR-15's during the so-called "ban"..

And "less powerful"? Since when has a .30-06 been less powerful than a 5.56? *snort*

2. Yeah, in any article like this you're going to find errors
I wonder how many "CA BLUE DEMS" are aware how brutally the Calfornia "assault weapons" ban backfired?! Not many, that's for sure.

3. Yup.. that first uptick around 88-89?
That's when CA started their "ban".

What did it accomplish? Doubled sales within a couple of years.

Talk about shooting oneself in the foot. LOL!!

6. The gun industry is raking it in right now.
Any hack can hang out a shingle and call himself a gunsmith these days.

I guess that ultimately it is for the good of the economy in that people have jobs, but I think that a lot of gun company fat cats are puffing on their stogies and smiling while they count their loot.

The cost of ammunition has tripled. Someone is making lots of $$$.

7. but until recently
the price of copper, brass and other metals (to make ammunition) has skyrocketed. That + unusually higher demand = higher prices
