A travel guide to the United States for those who fear guns
Many folks on the anti-gun side of the great gun debate claim that they will no longer frequent state parks that allow for concealed carry. News flash: If you live in a state where these new laws are taking effect, you've been in close proximity to someone with a concealed weapon on a regular basis ever since your state became a "shall issue" state w/regard to concealed carry! Here's Dave Kopel's useful travel guide for those who fear guns and the historically non-violent people who carry them legally:

1. And.....what assumption are you making with this post?
People that are anti gun have the right to be. People that are pro gun have the right to be.

3. Making no assumptions whatsoever.
Simply pointing out how irrational those people are who say they will avoid national parks now when there are concealed weapons around them already and have been for years.

The article points out what many anti-gunners are completely unaware of -- that there are 40 states in the country with concealed carry is legal for law abiding citizens without mental defect. Some of the most dangerous places (chicago's south side, parts of L.A.) are places that don't allow for concealed carry, while some of the safest places are places where concealed carry is legal. So basing your travel in our country based on "where the guns are" is problematic to say the least.

and we have the RIGHT to confront them with facts.

"Awesome. I can definitely recommend the South side of Chicago, and South Central LA - very peaceful, safe places for any H(redacted). Not a gun - or the violence that ALWAYS comes with them - allowed! Schweew! Don't you feel safer already? Stay away from states like Utah - where they allow practically anybody to carry.... why, just the other day, I heard that roving bands of hundreds of gun-totin' crazies were raping, pillaging, and shooting everything in sight!... going there is CERTAIN death, that's for sure....."

Kinda makes the point.

7. You are thinking of the Iowa floods of a few years back
"No, there wasn't any actual cannibalism , but we are reporting it . "

8. Not only all that
But I heard a rumor menfolk in Utah take control of the TV remote and dare their women to do anything about it.

Talk about a violent state.

9. This thread indirectly asserts people against personal ownership of firearms have psychological
defects.

Unacceptable.

Logic defects.

Although there is a considerable amount of overlap of the two....

Edit: Oh, wait, they used the "H" word. "yawn"...

11. I disagree. I think it just points to their thinking as irrational and illogical.
Not necessarily the result of a psychological defect.

Objecting to an "indirect assertion". How many threads would we have to shut down if we adopted your standard?

15. But if you read the article carefully...
the author goes to great lengths to delineate an irrational, harmful gun phobia from a simple dislike of guns.

16. Worry about the irrational LOVE of guns instead

There's more of it, and it has a more deleterious effect on things.

17. Seriously, how do their heads not explode from the cognitive dissonance?
"I won't go to the national park in my state because there are gunz there! OMG!!" (while at the same time there are guns in the grocery store, the shopping centers, the malls, the local convenience store..)

The irrationality would be funny if it weren't so sad.
