Gun Ban Activists Picket Denver Starbucks
DENVER -- Colorado gun-control activists are protesting Starbucks' policy not to ban customers carrying weapons.

Colorado Ceasefire says Starbucks Corp. should change its policy of letting customers carry guns where it's legal. The coffee chain has said it does want to be put in the middle of a gun-control debate.

After a picket Sunday at a Denver Starbucks store, two Colorado state senators want to promote gun-control bills pending in the state Legislature.

Democratic Sens. Joe Rice of Littleton and Betty Boyd of Lakewood said their bill would enhance screening of potential gun owners.

I could not find a photo of the picketing, but this gunbagger may or may not have been in the Starbucks.

1. Would you want to sit next to that doofus...
praying he didn't drop his gun, accidentally shooting someone. He may not be planning to go postal on anyone, but he certainly doesn't look like he manifests the common sense "God" gave a mule.

Starbucks is between a rock and a hard place and I recognize the second amendment rights that so many are fearful of losing. But, I just don't want to go back to the wild west and vigilante justice. Hell, even in the days of the wild west, town sheriffs began to restrict guns being brought in.

Yes, I know, I know... Half the world might have a concealed gun. Might. Funny, that I don't find sitting in a sunny window, drinking a leisurely cup of coffee with a friend particularly compatible with the equivalent of an NRA convention descending-- with guns everywhere you look.

5. This may be a photo-shopped fear, and to some it works...
I cannot related to what you think he "doesn't look like," esp. since the object of your photographic animus was not in that store; but as in the Rodney King case, pictures can be deceiving.

I agree that Starbucks is "between a rock and a hard place," so they are doing only what they have always done: follow the law. I doubt it has hurt their business, and I see no evidence of a wild-wild west or "vigilante justice;" if you have any, please provide. BTW, some of those "town sheriffs" (such as in Tombstone, AR) allowed you could wear a gun or hold it in your hand, but NOT carry concealed. Ironic, ain't it?

If CA had a fair concealed-carry law, then I think the open-carry issue would not become so prominent. Or, gun-control groups can choose to continue picking at scabs.

You've never sat beside someone wearing a gun? If she wore dress-for-success attire and heels, quietly (and inevitably) murmured into a cell-phone and neatly crossed her legs from the bar stool, revealing a Lady Smith, and smiled in your general direction, would she "look like" someone you would sit beside? You may replace my "photo-shopped" girl with the "photo-shopped" guy of your choosing.

8. This story is from Denver, not California...
Edited on Sun Apr-18-10 06:16 PM by hlthe2b
and no, it wouldn't matter (and might be worse) if she were a professional female (ignoring your "come hither" rhetoric) on a cell phone, flirting as she sat there, with her gun largely unattended in her purse or bag.

I guess, I think guns are serious business and require just a bit of seriousness in minding them.

46. California is where the "action" is, Denver is a skirmish...
That is why I mentioned Cali. If they had decent "bear arms" legislation, you would see little action elsewhere on open-carry. I may be wrong, but being the largest state with some of the worst laws, open-carry may disprove the notion of "all politics being local."

Actually, she only revealed the Lady Smith in its holstered condition and smiled reassuringly. And definitely (in my mind) looks better than the photo-shopped guy. Why waste the money on cameras and editing when you can use your own mind?

I treat guns seriously which is why I don't get all panicked when someone shows up in a public accommodation wearing one. And that has happened to me a number of times.

He's not going to "drop it". Modern pistols don't go off from falling on the floor.

Are you now the arbiter of "common sense"? I must have misseed the memo. What is the definition of "common sense"? What specifically is he doing that is against "common sense"?

As has been posted in this forum many times, don't get your vision of history from movies and fictional novels. The "wild" west wasn't that "wild". Self defense is not "vigilante justice". And confiscating legal private property is always Unconstitutional.

Can you fit any more inaccuracies into so short a post?

19. You have no rights to live free from your own fears.
I hate to come across as gruff, but your fears are your own problem.

If a Klan member wanted to spout his hate and bullshit at me, it may make me afraid, but he has every right to do so. On top of that I would defend his right to do so. He has every right to hate me, and speak his mind about it. Of course if he knew what was under my shirt, he would be the one shitting his pants.

In all honesty he can do more damage with his voice than I probably ever will with my firearms.

He is free to speak his mind, no matter how unpopular. I am free to arm myself, not matter how scary you may find that. You have not rights under the law to be free from your own fears.

The best way to overcome those fears, I would suggest you spend time learning about firearms. Usually a little bit of knowledge can alleviate a lot of fear.

We pass laws against murder and crime and do our best to uphold those laws.

Not wanting to live in a society where "everybody is walking around with guns" (but not committing crimes) is not sufficient cause to pass a law, especially if it is unconstitutional. Frankly, relatively few "people will walk around with guns strapped to their hips," so why worry?

The Constitution exists to defend the rights of people, not assuage the fears and distastes of some citizens.

36. The original photo was of a man outisde a healthcare meeting ...

William Kostric the man with a loaded firearm and a placard that says “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots” at the Town Hall meeting of President Obama held at Portsmouth, New Hampshire regarding health policies and issues, the phrase refers to a letter written by Thomas Jefferson.

William Kostric said he came to the meeting to be heard, he wanted people to remember the rights they have and how quickly they are losing their right in this country, he said there is a list of rights, it does not take a genius to see that we are traveling down the road and break neck speed that tours towards tyranny away from liberty and has much to do with excessive taxation, no one is being true to the people of this country.

http://www.makli.com/william-kostric-005425/

On August 11, 2009, William Kostric, a New Hampshire resident, Free State Project participant, and former member of We The People<1>'s Arizona Chapter,<27> was seen carrying a loaded handgun openly in a holster while participating in a protest at a town hall meeting hosted by President Barack Obama at Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire. Kostric never attempted to enter the school, but rather stood some distance away on the private property of a nearby church, where he had permission to be. He held up a sign that read, "It's Time to Water the Tree of Liberty!".<28>
