Woman Fires Gun In Air To Break Up Party

KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - Police said they arrested a 66-year-old woman accused of firing a gun into the air to break up her neighbors' backyard party. The woman was booked into the Benton County jail for investigation of unlawfully discharging a weapon in the city limits. Police were called to her home Sunday night after neighbors reported a shot being fired into the air.

The woman told police she was upset about the party but said she only smacked a frying pan on a wooden fence.

Officers said she denied even owning a gun, but they said they found a loaded .32-caliber derringer in a kitchen cupboard.

a derringer is a 2 shot gun.

The story says it was loaded. If she fired it and quickly hid it, I'm not sure it would qualify as loaded.

In any event, smacking a frying pan and firing gun don't sound anything alike.

COULD sound like a shot. Although the derringer was loaded, was it recently fired? THAT info is mysteriously missing.

5. What is the point to this story? That an elderly woman MAY have illegally shot a gun into

the air? If she did, she should be required to pay the appropriate fine or whatever the law says applies. I guess I can't figure out why you think it's newsworthy.
