Why I Don't care for background checks |
|
I received an Email today from members of our state rifle association It said, in part,
We're getting another hosing. There was a major gun show in Colorado Springs this weekend. Sunday was a complete bust, for one reason. CBI's phone system didn't open until 1:00 PM, and when it did, they informed the dealers who called in for background checks that they had a backlog of law enforcement business, and would therefore be unable to service gun sales. As a result, there were NO guns sold on Sunday. Dealers were packing up and leaving the show, as they were unable to make legal sales. There were an awful lot of people who lost an awful lot of money, as a result. I expect the same thing occurred at sporting goods stores around the state. This is unconscionable, and I, personally, am convinced it's intentional. CBI has pulled slowdowns in the past to hamper gun shows, but this is the first time, they've just simply refused to do background checks for sales. They're upset with the state legislature for not giving them the funding they want, for their fancy new computer system they want, and for other items on their agenda. This is their way of putting pressure on the legislature.
Anytime you place the bureaucrat at the bottleneck you run the risk he/she may shut it down just to prove they can. Background checks give the government the ability to stop gun sales just by saying "our computers are down"
Am I the only one who sees the danger here?

US gun policy is a bamboozle (trick) played on the ignorant to believe the people in charge actually care about their poor miserable existence and are "making the streets safer".
The vast majority of gun crime here is culture related to drug violence. That or suicide. Remove those factors and you have a place like canada or finland, or switzerland where people have guns. They just dont use them in crimes.
Protect your rights because once they are gone they rarely come back.

Seems like some of your countrymen and -women are doing their bit for gun proliferation.
Personally, I'd like to thank them- they will be made in Massachusetts and we need the jobs.

odds are it was not the "nra types" who shot you in the face for you car. Odds are not a legal gun owner or purchase by the person who pops you.

That these idiots upthread don't see a problem with letting some bureaucrat determine which of their rights are valid is asinine.

19. This is an issue, like so many control related issues that the pro-control |

crew isn't even aware exists.
That is, the underhanded de facto gun "control" measures that can be employed to subvert the law.
And of course they'd be screaming bloody murder if this same type of dirty politics were to be applied to one of their favored agendas.

You could also consider getting yourself a dictionary, or at least using the spelling check function.

The FBI and TX DPS check you out thoroughly before issuing a CHL and as long as you're still in good standing you get to skip Brady. Yuk-Yuk.

38. It wasn't the NICS check that was the problem in this case |
|
It was that the Colorado state-level system was down, which is apparently required in addition to the NICS check. I don't really see how a state-level check in addition to the federal check is anything but redundant (provided the state is prompt about keeping the FBI apprised, but if it's not, maybe it should be directing the resources spent on the state-level background check system towards improving its performance in reporting to the feds), so having sales hampered because that redundant system isn't working is awfully frustrating.

The state back ground check is in place of the NICS.
I remember reading some where that if you place one bureaucrat in charge of dispensing a form he is de facto in control of everyone who needs that form and likely to stop the flow just tio show he can
