Police: Boy killed cousin with uncle's gun

COLUMBIA, S.C., May 10 (UPI) -- A 3-year-old boy allegedly used his uncle's gun to kill his 5-year-old cousin, authorities in Richland County, S.C., said.

The two boys, both nephews of Waddell McGhee, 24, of Dentsville, S.C., were playing at a family gathering Friday night when the gun allegedly fell out of McGhee's pants and was found by the younger boy, Richland County sheriff's spokeswoman Monique Mack said.

The 3-year-old, who was not publicly identified, allegedly fired the gun at his cousin, Adonis Grimes, who died from a bullet wound to his back, Mack said.

McGhee was arrested and charged with one count of homicide by child abuse, The State, Columbia, S.C., reported Monday. He also was charged with arson and criminal domestic violence for allegedly setting fire to his ex-girlfriend's bedroom Thursday night.

McGhee has a

prior felony conviction

and faces additional charges for being a convicted felon with a handgun, authorities said.
