Michigan State Police report shows about 1 in 43 state residents has a CPL
A new Michigan State Police report shows that in the almost nine years since Michigan’s “shall issue” concealed carry law was enacted 227,468 Michigan residents have taken advantage of the law to obtain a Michigan Concealed Pistol License.
The latest Census data puts the Michigan population at 9,969,727 residents. This means that statewide about 1 in 43.829 people has a Michigan CPL. That works out to approximately 2.28% of the total state population.
Wayne County tops the list with 42,556 permits issued since the “shall issue” law started. Oakland County is next with a total of 32,010 permits issued in the same time frame.

2. How many adults in Michigan. Under 21 can't get a permit.
When the underage are factored out, that leaves a pretty high percentage having the CPL.

3. How can Wayne County(Detroit) have the highest
number when it has the highest murder rate in the country for cities of it's size?

My guess it that both Toledo, 40 miles away, and Detroit have lots of CCWs because of the high crime rates, and that has had little to no effect on crime rates. I think there is a valid need for CCWs for defense in high crime areas. That does not, in any way, make the streets safer for others. More police, better prosecutions and economic recovery have a bigger impact on crime numbers.
