Buying NRA raffle tickets pays off...
I was just notified that I have won a Rock River Arms LAR-15 w/ Eotech sight. About a $1200-1500 package, depending on model. I pick it up tomorrow or Sunday. Wow.

Coincidentally, my birthday is very soon. And yes, I'm running around the house doing a happy-dance right now.

33. Probably sometime tomorrow...
Just got back from a moderately brutal Mt. bike ride and am tired as heck.

Sandwich, beer, nap. Shower later.

20. I enlisted in the Navy
before I could be drafted, to stay out of Vietnam but as luck would have it, I joined the Seabees and got sent to the wonderful paradise of Dong Ha. What a hell of a way to avoid the draft.

26. They all got one thing
in common, they are chickenhawks who found a way to avoid serving their country.
When I got home in 70 my own younger brother, who was vehemently anti war, asked me how it felt to have murdered innocent women and children for an unjust war, after I knocked him on his ass, we didn't talk again for years and years but he finally came to me and apologized and now we are back to being brothers again.

27. Glad you've mended that fence...
...I understand your reaction.

Hate the war.

Hate the politicians who caused the war.

But don't hate the poor serviceman or woman who got stuck fighting the war. It's not their fault.

23. I won a set of bronze Mr. President coins from Shell Oil in 1969
But the best thing I ever won was an edged weapons class at Front Sight. It was the grand prize in a gun club picnic raffle.

of a facility. I took their shooting course and was very satisfied with the professionalism of the instructors. I live only about a 1/2 hour away from the facility if I drive fast down SR 160 to the Shoshone turnoff.

39. Pick-up report and Pictures!!
Edited on Sun May-16-10 07:47 PM by PavePusher
I got it!!!!

Appears to be a very lightly (if at all) used RRA LAR-15 CAR A4, with generic 4-position stock, an unknown but comfy contoured grip with thumb-rest, and a flip-up rear sight I haven't identified yet. EOTech sight. Came with 2 30-rd. Thermold mags by D. & D. Inc., Plano case and USMC Technical Manual TM 05538C-23&P/2.

I rounded up 4 US Milspec 30-rd. metal mags by O-Kay Ind. ($52), an armourers wrench and single-point sling ($70), bore brush/muzzle cap/25 stripper clips ($9), 500-rd. case of Federal American Eagle 55gr. FMJ & 3 stripper guides ($200) at various vendors. Just need to get a sling adapter to go under the stock.

Bore and chamber are sparkley bright and clean, all parts are spotless. If this thing has as many as 50 rds through it, if any, I'd be shocked. If it was fired at all, it was well cleaned afterwards.

Absolutely no slop between upper and lower, pins are tight, but can be pushed/pulled with fingers. Trigger pull seems heavy but very crisp. Mags all lock in snuggly, but drop out under their own weight when released. It is the Awesome sauce. Pictures follow...
