Local news article on NRA convention (Charlotte, NC)...
...a nice change from the national coverage of self-serving politicians grandstanding.

http://news14.com/charlotte-news-104-content/top_stories/625905/seminar-teaches-gun-owners-other-forms-of-protection

Focuses mostly on the Refuse to Be A Victim seminar, the most popular one at the convention.

4. Since the NRA has given the Dem govornors of Oklahoma and New Mexico
plus Harry Reid all an "A" rating, are you suggesting those 3 are members of the KKK?

7. I wouldn't suggest that. I would suggest they are panderers to the gun lobby.

15. If they pander to us, it is because we are worth pandering to.
We can deliver the votes.

17. Again with "The Gun Lobby" slur

Hypocrisy on display.

Millions of dollars by individual donors to Barack Obama's campaign = Righteous Grassroots Effort
Millions of dollars by individual donors to the NRA = Evil Gun Lobby

13. Actually if you had just a few grains of integrity you could sit yourself

down and consider the reality that folks like you are the GOP's best friends.

The GOP expertly uses your blatant and unreasoned contempt for guns and gun owners to clobber us politically.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for you to put the Democratic Party before your ego, though. Howl on, sir........howl on.

14. "Let's sacrifice jobs, healthcare, and the environment for an attempt at gun control!"
Some people would rather have 100 percent of nothing than 80 percent of something. Fortunately, more of the Democratic Party
refuse to chain themselves to the rotting corpse of gun control these days...

20. The NRA defacto banned guns in the convention center, why???????????????
Was it because it would be a PR disaster if a gunfight broke out or that the NRA leadership was afraid of it's own people.

21. No, North Carolina state law prohibits licensed carry on any premises that serve alcohol
Edited on Mon May-17-10 08:26 PM by benEzra
or anywhere admission is charged for any reason. Just another NC legal quirk. NC does have the 13th strictest gun laws in the nation, after all.

When the annual meeting is held in less restrictive states (such as the 2009 convention in Phoenix), licensed carry is, indeed, allowed on the premises.

4. It's not the NRA setting this policy.. it's the state of NC..
§ 14‑269.3.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to carry any gun, rifle, or pistol into any assembly where a fee has been charged for admission thereto, or into any establishment in which alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

24. Why didn't they go to a different venue. a "non gunfree" venue?
If it's so important to put guns in churches, schools, workplaces and bars, why didn't they have this convention with guns present? Hypocrisy and cowardice, I say!

25. It probably has a lot to
with the need to get 70k people in one place somewhere in North Carolina. Since the NRA has members all over the United States I understand that they move the convention from state to state from year to year.

Now go ahead and rub some funk on that happy dance if you're enjoying it so much.

23. If your supposition were likely...
Please explain why they often hold the convention in places where guns are allowed?

Like, oh.... Phoenix, last year?

Please cite the mayhem that occured. I'll go make dinner...
