Weis creates new category of 'indoor' homicides

May 19, 2010

BY FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter/fspielman@suntimes.com

Chicago’s rising homicide rate spiked on Tuesday with a murder-suicide that left three people dead and three more bodies found in a car.

Police Supt. Jody Weis is making a distinction between indoor and outdoor homicides.

He's creating a new category of "indoor" homicides — and downplaying what police can do about them...

...Not only is Weis making the distinction between indoor and outdoor homicides. He has asked the Chicago Police Department to keep those statistics in separate categories....

Good to know that the handgun ban is keeping Chicago safe!

1. Indoor murders don't count
I heard him this AM on the radio.

I guess the new stunt is to "not count" indoor crimes, since the police couldn't do anything about them anyway. So for some reason they shouldn't be included in the crime statistics. That's our boy, "Run from the sound of the guns Weiss"! Really inspiring as a leader for the street cops, I'm sure. But now Daley can go back and refocus on his lawsuits and tax money against gun manufacturers at the World Court in the Hague.

How long will it take for other Chicago residents to wise up and realize that Daley is trying to turn Chicago into a worse hell hole, while he pads his friends pockets with big, no bid contracts and leave the cops, firemen and other unions to kiss his ass.

It's time for State Senator Meeks to run against Daley in the next election.

2. It just gets better and better.
Well, I've been to one world fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing I ever heard come over a set of earphones. You sure you got today's codes?

4. He's an awfully out-of-shape guy to be dragging those goalposts everywhere
What's next, going back and fudging last year's numbers up so that you can still claim a decrease??

5. Sure, he'll fudge them this way
Indoor homicides - Living Room
Indoor homicides - Kitchen
Indoor homicides - Bedroom
Indoor homicides - Basement

That way, you can take the percentage that happen in the living room and divide by total indoor to claim crime is down in indoor homicides. Better yet, divide living room homicides by total homicides and wind up with a really low number.

9. If Daley's handgun ban worked there would not be ANY handgun murder...
in Chicago, indoor or outdoor.

Obviously, the handgun ban is a failure.
